  1. Sadly, for reasons beyond my control, and for the first time, I will be unable to attend this year's race. *sad face* As unofficial race historian and purveyor of trivia I am looking for a volunteer to hand my metaphorical baton to. Ability to run the race dressed as Cruella de Ville will be a key criteria in gaining this prestigious role.
  2. It was an interview/reading thing at the Southbank. Utter guff. Probably didn't help that I was there to see everyone but Burgess but I still thought he came across as a wazzock.
  3. Saw him give a talk recently and he came across as a bumbling idiot. If I want to listen to endless boring anecdotes about taking drugs I can just meet my old friends from uni.
  4. Nearly all turntables will require either an additional pre-amp or a built-in phono stage on your amp. Few come with it built in these days I think. Otta - I have a Project Debut II which (I think) cost ?150 new but seem to be very reasonable on ebay.. Buying second hand is risky with turntables though since the catridge could be knackered and it's more sensitive in transit than something more solid like an amp or cd player. New, you could get something pretty like this.... http://www.project-audio.com/inhalt/bilder/debutesprit.jpg Shop around and it'll be close to ?200.
  5. Get a Project. Best budget turntable bar none. Latter models come in pretty colours too.
  6. Subaru Outback.
  7. I need some pronto for a quick batch of ginger ale for the Jubilee. Does anywhere around here sell it?
  8. Oooh what a lovely pear.
  9. I think the Royal College of Surgeons museum is meant to be a laugh.
  10. I'm touched. Annette - for you.
  11. Or going for a walk as most of us refer to it. Sometimes, working in Government communications really is like an episode of TwentyTwelve or In The Thick Of It. Much current favourites/most-hated include: taking a discussion "off-line" i.e. talking about that later "incentivising" "benchmarks" "qualitative shift" "spreading the field" "feed in" and finally, in a performance management re-organisation meeting this week: "an extra layer of 'how' and the normal amount of 'what'"
  12. MamoraMan - well done. Excellent decision. You want German steel. Merkur is the top brand. Military build quality (in a good way). The combo listed at the bottom of the page here is good value: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Merkur-Stainless-Platinum-Safety-Blades/dp/B000IB0G28 Badger brushes come in three variable qualities - make sure you get Super as a minimum, Silvertip if you can find and afford it.
  13. PGC - Paul Waugh at Politics Home wrote earlier today that the best spoiled ballot paper he had come across was someone who had scrawled "You made me pregnant you bastard!" next to the name of a candidate. The question is whether it was Ken or Boris?
  14. God you lot are miserable:
  15. When you're in Vietnam you see packets and packets of "weasel" coffee which is supposed to be this stuff they've shat out. Bollox. you'd have to have farms of weasels eating and pooing these coffee beans out 24/7 to make the volume they sell. Marketing nonsense for tourists. And yes, ?2.50 is pricey. But that sums up Andersons well - along with the sour service. Medium black coffee.....?2 max.
  16. Poor night for the LibDems, James? Paddick polling alongside the Greens and an Independent with no tv coverage. Party polling similarly poorly.
  17. Frozen vrab meat from the fish places along Rye Lane will be pretty cheap. Personally, I'd follow Jeremy's suggestion and get thee to Sopers.

  19. Bulk buy items like olive oil, rice, tinned tomatoes etc. Anything you use a lot of regularly. Rye Lane sells this sort of thing at ridiculously cheap prices compared to Sainsburys. 5litre drums of oil and 20kg bags of rice (if you have the room) keep really well and work out so much cheaper than buying packets 1/10 of the size.
  20. Tomo - I agree. We lost money at a place that took our fee after a "look-round" day and then called a few months later to say we wouldn't get a place. ?30 poorer. It's a con. But what can you do?
  21. Oh Jack, do dick off, there's a good chap.
  22. Never mind Bob. Check out the meta review of review of review here.
  23. They are indeed. Tiring isn't it.
  24. Troll. As predicted. https://twitter.com/#!/JackBlocker
  25. Don't feed the troll.
