  7. Sebastian Faulks "A Week in Decemeber" is great
  8. Saffron, Dulwichmum, Buggie and ??? I agree. This is asking too much of an eight year old - supervision, bike, busy road etc. I gave my older children increasing responsibility and freedom from age 9 so that they were allowed to go to the park on their own, go to school alone after years and years of driling them about road safety. I still would think twice about letting them escort their younger sibling across some of the busy roads here. I also agree re the McCanns. We always book a babysitter when we are in a hotel etc and want to go out. if as ocassionally happens the agency babysitter fails to turn up, we stay in. What on earth were the McCanns thinking?. We were evacuated from a hotel in a suspected fire a couple of years ago. We were with our children luckily. What would have happened had they been in a hotel room alone? The most disturbing feature of this for me is the way in which the parents want to turn their kids into a media crusade. As for evidence of Boris's innate arseness... "Children, especially male children, need to learn about risk and daring.." Girls should stick to knitting eh?
  9. Sorry Tarafitness am utterly useless at attachments. They had a wondeful concert at the Albany last night. There is going to be a week long summer course. We will be on holiday then so I havent kept the flyer. I have asked Spencer to post details on the forum.
  10. Glee Club Dulwich!attachment new Posted by: headgleek March 28, 02:17PM Is your GLEEK status off the radar??? Are you in need of some GLEE-HAB??? On Thursday 15th April 2010, Glee Club Dulwich commences its second exciting term!! Glee Club has got off to an amazing start, with 26 teenagers raising their voices every week, to some complex and exciting arrangements of some great songs! Glee leaders Spencer James and Katharine Woolley have been amazed by the dedication shown by "The Gleeks" and the wealth of talent coming through the door makes for a very exciting evening, each Thursday! We are particularly thrilled to have found our home at St Faiths Community Centre, an amazing venue that lends itself beautifully to performance and music! We meet every Thursday from 7.30 - 9.30pm, and will shortly be announcing our GLEEK WEEK Summer School! Spencer and Katharine believe that Glee Club and its members are a great asset to the area and we are looking for opportunities to "show off" the talents of the group, especially in the summer months - so we would love to hear from anybody who is looking for a little GLEE! SEE BELOW OR ATTACHED for some more official sounding details! The aim of Glee Club is to provide a unique and enriching musical experience for children and young adults between the ages of 13 and 18. The group is led by Spencer James and Katharine Woolley, who between them have extensive experience working with children of all ages and backgrounds. Glee club every Thursday night at Red Post Hill. Cant recommend it highly enough. Has brought my shy teenager out of their shell. Therre has been a posting elsewhere on site but cut and paste deteail below. Glee Club is unique in that it offers a specialist approach to the appreciation and practice of singing/music, giving our members the opportunity to learn and perform difficult arrangements of songs from all genres of music. The area is well represented by weekend theatre schools and clubs, however, these are often over populated by the younger age bracket of 7 ? 12 years, and children over this age can often be overlooked, as the level of teaching is often pitched to accommodate the youngest and least experienced. Glee Club aims to nourish the musical abilities of its members in an exciting and energised environment and opening up the club to a diverse range of children is extremely important to us. We feel confident that our target age bracket will benefit greatly from our approach. Attachments: Glee_poster.docx (13.6KB)
  11. what a nightmare intexasathemoment. Have vicarious GCSEs for next 3 years in a row. Why did I mistakenly believe that I was done with exams when I sat my finals? Physics doesnt make any more sense than it did 30 years ago.
  12. Hello Tina Alfred Salter has a good reputation for children with SEN. I am not sure if it has a specialism. Good luck. I think there is a Southwark support group for parents of children with SEN. I saw a notice I think at our GP's surgery. THis might be a good source of advice and information.
  13. Thanks very much Mockney. I need to replace my Bullingdon screen saver taken from the Mirror on election day and this will do nicely. Now anyone feel like photoshopping Nick Clegg in?
  14. LoZ - Mark Serwotka seems to have been a bit quiet. Is this going to last for the next 5 years?
  15. Have you been following the Northern Ireland peace process Cllr Barber?. Even Dr Ian Paisley moved on from this terminology. Your pact with the Conservative/Ulster Unionist party has obviously caught on very quickly. Your comment is grossly offensive to Irish people. I am raising this with your party. You might care to look at how the Standards Board has treated anti-Irish comments.
  16. Dulwichmum - off topic and prejudiced and ill-informed.
  17. Lots of lib dem stuff. No Tories. Sick of the Lib Dems telling me that their candidate is a real Sarf Londoner with an SE24 postcode.
  18. Also try Dulwich Youth Orchestra http://www.dyodulwich.com/
  19. Is she a member of a union? They could advise her on the policies and negotiate with the manager
  20. I wouldn't worry. You do what you have to do to get through the pregnancy. I seem to remember it becoming harder to eat near the end. Heartburn kicked in and i was mainlining gaviscon..
  21. Please get rid of Southwark Life. This publication is pointless.
  22. HI so sorry to hear this. Have you tried looking at mumsnet to see if there is a relevant thread?
  23. Forest Hill Road in my opinion is now a little too big and can feel impersonal. You will rarely get to see the same doctor twice. I have had good experiences with one of the younger male doctors who was really good with a sulky teenage son who was refusing to see any doctor.
