  1. Thanks very much James for your help in sorting out our refuse problem. Much appreciated.
  2. HI hope the advice so far helps. Had CVS for our third when I was 38. Risk was something like 1 in 12? I had CVS for two reasons. We have other children and felt that the whole family would be affected so we needed to know. I would have proceeded with the pregnancy but thought that also if the test was positive for downs it would have given us time to find out if there were other medical complications e.g. heart and have time to get specialist support lined up. I rested completely for a few days and Kings called me very late on a Friday night to let me know that the test was fine rather than have us wait and worry over the weekend . Another of the many reasons to be grateful for the NHS. ..
  3. I saw a really good acupuncturist called Emma Wilson and my breech baby turned at 38 weeks. Sorry I dont have her details any more but I think she was practising from somewhere in West Norwood. Good luck
  4. You could do something about the awful customer service at the call centre. I called this morning to ask for our bin to emptied as it --and our elderly neighbour's - had been missed out when all the others were collected. The person I spoke to said there is no point in calling until after 6 as "the refuse will just ignore it". I asked if he could pass the info on or take a message or raise a query. He said that he wouldn't be around and wouldn't pass it on. I would have to call back after 6pm. Superb.
  5. pavements round here just off lordship lane - havent been gritted.
  6. How will this impact on local schools which have not been allocated any funds for new buildings. It is notable that there have been massive investments in the Hamlet, St John's and St Clement's, Heber etc whilst St Anthony's is in very elderly buildings???
  7. Try the National Childminders Association. THeir website has lots of model agreements. Hope it all works out.
  8. Why does the council spend so much money on a full colour publication to all households. It is full of puff features about council services but little accurate information on how to access them. This money could be much better spent. Mine goes straight into recycling.
  9. St Michaels is shortly to become a school with feeder primaries - none of which are in the area. BTG just over the border in Lambeth is becoming popular.
  10. James are you opposed to increasing provision in local faith schools? I note that you say that "government rules would probably result in a religious school and would an Islamic, CoE or Catholic school with seperate admissions policies solve things?" This conveys great negativity on your part to those members of the local community who do wish their children to attend faith schools. Does this mean that St Anthony's School does not have your support for increasing the school entry to 2 class sizes?
  11. Posting for the third time in the hope I get a response.. Please tell me why Southwark sends so many letters re electoral registration ? I have had 7 letters. Replied to the first with all details and then I continue to receive these. Also why has so much money been sunk into a brand new town hall at one end of the borough on prime development land>? Couldnt this money have been spent on services for council tax payers? Say on increasing school places?

  14. sympathies. think all teenagers are trying. have you looked at mumsnet to see if anyone there has advice/info ?
  15. I have had very poor experiences of the local Lib Dem council on the issue of schools. They parked the review of primary school places in the south of the borough for many years and we - in East Dulwich - are now paying the price! They could have acted before now and havent
  16. Dear Mellors it isnt just about any contractual provision. you have a statutory right to request flexible working and to take time off for family emergencies. you do need to take advice and have regard to your own work situation. It is a shame you arent a member of a trade union. Try the TUC website. The BIS formerly Berr website may also contain information
  17. had our spare tyre stolen from underneath our car last night in lordship lane
  18. Really sorry to hear this. Good luck with any other applications/appeals. I am so sick of the council failing to do anything about the crisis in primary school places south of the borough. The lib dem cllrs were just not interested.
  19. I see that the Alleyns' website avoids using the words "swine flu" calling it influenza A H1N1 in its entry. How genteel!
  20. thanks Annie - this explains why I had a freezing hour waiting. Boris needs to get his act together so the bus stops on oxford st say that the bus doesnt go there any more.
  21. I won't vote for any member of this lib dem tory council again not least because of the shambles that is the Walworth Road "improvements". Each day this week I have had my normal bus journey from ED take up to 3 times longer because of the utterly pointless pavement widening. There have been no signs of course of any actual works being carried out. This reflects the Lib Dems' obsession with the north of the Borough. What is this work for? Do they think wider pavements will turn Walworth Road into the Ramblas? Why don't they do something useful like carry out the long overdue review of primary school places for the south of the borough?
  22. I have had occasion to contact her twice and found her very helpful particularly on a schools issue which will benefit swathes of ED residents. The local councillors dont seem particularly interested in us living sarf in the borough.
  23. I have had several nasty experiences being chased or slobbered over by the canine equivalent of 4x4s during runs in Dulwich Park while their owners watch and say "he doesn't mean any harm". I now won't run there early on Sunday mornings when they are all out. Yes to leads.
