  1. Are you going through the borough of Lewisham's application website? I think you apply from the borough you live in now and can put schools in any borough (eg Southwark) on your list if that makes sense! We moved from Southwark to Lewisham and the Lewisham eadmissions form let me put in the new child and new address on the Lewisham site.
  2. Anything at the Albrighton is usually friendly and we used to go to All Saints church in Peckham on a Weds morning - I think there are sessions at 10 and 11. There was also a playgroup at the church on Coplestone Road on a Tues morning, but I'm not sure if that's still going? If you fancy a bus trip, get the 176 or 197 to Forest Hill/Sydenham and try Holy Trinity church at 10 on a Fri morning. It's run by lovely ladies who make very nice cakes. Get off the bus at Tesco and walk along Sydenham Park. Sometimes baby groups can seem cliquey, but I think that's just people sticking to who they know. I remember those days when the last thing I wanted to do was to talk to people, but sometimes if you just have one chat you feel better. Anything free is usually nicer! Hope that helps.
  3. Eliot Bank is great. I think they challenge the children quite a lot, which suits mine! We started mid-year and it's friendly. I've heard Fairlawn is very good too. Let me know if you want to know anything in particular, and good luck.
  4. That's funny what you say about singing, Cam123 - my youngest was a late talker, but I would hear her singing Let It Go and wonder why she could sing words like 'isolation' without even being able to say 'cat'...
  5. My second girl was about two and a half before she started talking. I took her to the drop-in speech therapy clinic at Kaleidoscope in Catford (185 bus from Forest Hill or park in Aldi!) and they were great if you're worried and don't want to wait for your appointment with the speech therapist.
  6. Thanks so much! That's great news - I now have an answer to the 'What are we doing todaaaaaay?' whine
  7. Does anyone know what times the Peckham one o'clock club is open over the summer? And also if the Albrighton Centre has any play days on? I have failed to find info online and these two were our favourites last year! Week three and getting desperate for entertainment...
  8. A couple of my friends work at First News, a weekly newspaper specifically for children: http://www.firstnews.co.uk/ I love the idea of a 9 year old being interested in the news - good on him!
  9. Magic Moments is great! Lovely ladies who run it. It's open 9.45-12.15 every weekday except Weds and they're quite flexible.
  10. Does anyone know any holiday clubs or classes running over the summer that cover age 3-6? I have two girls and they get on better as a little team so it'd be good to get them into something together. They like singing, dancing, showing off, and it doesn't need to be full time - just an activity they can enjoy together and have a mix with other children. We're Forest Hill/Sydenham way, but can travel.
  11. Yes, I had an email a few months ago to say it had shut down. The only other place I've heard of is Third Door, think it's Wandsworth? I'd love it if someone opened a workspace/creche round here!
  12. That wall looks like the kind of thing that's not supposed to be walked on, but has been plonked in a kids' playground where they like to climb.
  13. Is it just me or is that wall all the kids were walking along scarily high for smaller ones?
  14. Have you got lots of stuff with you? If not, the flight to Dinard is only 50 minutes and then you could hire a car. My parents have a house over there and we've worked out it takes the best part of a day no matter how you do it. They usually do the Dover/Calais ferry. You could break up the drive with a stop-off in a Formule 1 hotel - very cheap with family rooms. My favourite way is Eurostar to Paris, then a train out from Montparnasse (with an hour of shopping in Galleries Lafayette). I have never attempted the journey with children though!
  15. I use ad hoc childcare as I'm freelance - often booked at the last minute. We have a nanny who does ad hoc, so give me a shout if you want her details. If you're ever working shorter days I found Magic Moments were flexible, but they just do mornings. It's lovely there. There used to be a workspace with cr?che in Brixton, called Treehouse, but I think it shut down. I wish someone would open one round here!
  16. My little girl went to Heber nursery. She settled in really quickly and got on really well as the teachers are great. I looked around Goodrich and that seemed good, too, with more outside space.
  17. Massive fan of epidurals! I didn't have one first time round, so wrote on a piece of paper that I wanted one the second time. The midwives reassured me I could do it without one, but I was having none of it so they called the lovely anaesthetist. Be firm and clear, whatever you choose. It's your big day, not anyone else's. Kings is brilliant and you'll be treated well. Good luck!
  18. I'm interested in the bunks, but your inbox is full. Are they in the shop to look at?
  19. I'd like to come too, if you have room at the table!
  20. I really feel for anyone who's had a bad experience with their first birth. I did, and second time round I booked in with the Kings midwives and told them how scared I was. They referred me to see the psychologist, who was brilliant, and a week before I was due I cried at my midwife appointment and she was amazing - sent me straight up to the maternity dept to go through my birth notes with one of the senior staff. When I did go into labour Leonie Penna was amazing and ventoused the baby out like some kind of genius. Good luck - I think Kings is great.
  21. Yes, Bunmi is great with both kids and adults
  22. I took my 5 and 2 year old to see the Santa in Twist Studios in Forest Hill and he was ace. Good present, good chat, he wasn't busy and he's free. He's there from 12-4 at weekends.
  23. We have an excellent babysitter who's looking for more hours up to Christmas. She's very reliable, day and evenings. I know she's going away on the 19th, but pm me if you need details.
  24. My daughter moved to EB two months ago and I'm so impressed. It's a warm, friendly atmosphere and she's made great progress with her reading. Settling in was OK, even though I was worried about moving her just after the start of year one. PM me if you need to know anything specific.
  25. Does anyone know if the Coplestone still runs on a Tues? Or what else is on for a 2.5-year-old today? Thanks
