  1. Magic Moments is great - my little one started at 18 months. They're shut for half term this week, but I'm fairly sure they have spaces. The ladies are lovely and they're flexible on days, which is handy when you have a new baby in tow! It's 9.45 - 12.15 for a tenner.
  2. Hello and welcome! I've just moved to Forest Hill/Sydenham from ED and was wondering who else lives up this way. (There's an SE23 forum, but it's not as busy as this one.) If there are quite a few of us, perhaps we could arrange some local mum drinks/a get-together with the children.
  3. I'm really sorry to hear about this. My little girl went to Oak Tree and we absolutely loved it - and the staff. What a terrible shame for the lovely people who work there and all the working parents who rely on the nursery and who'll now be in a desperate situation.
  4. I moved to 306 from DMC because of the usual gripes. Dr C is great, and the receptionists are lovely - whenever I ring up they always ask me if it's for me or the children and will fit them in if needed. Parking's not too bad really. I used to live a couple of doors down and there are plenty of spaces in the day.
  5. My mum worked full time when I was at school and she taught me some very important things: Get up half an hour before the children to get dressed and do your hair and make-up (this was the 80s and high hair was tres important!) Never bake And she always used to have a G&T while she was cooking the dinner! Only now do I understand how much she did while we all loafed around being teenagers asking how long dinner would be.
  6. Harradines are great, and treat yourself to their packing services too! It doesn't cost much more, but they pack it all up and then set your beds up.
  7. We were 6th on the list for Heber last year and were offered a place at the beginning of August. PM me if you need to know more - I realise how stressful it is!
  8. My little girl is very, very curly and has only had a couple of haircuts even though she's five. I was never very happy with the way hairdressers hacked away at it! This time, I went to Hue on St David's Rd in Forest Hill (just behind Sainsbury's car park) and the man in there really took his time and did a great cut. Only ?9 too.
  9. Ha ha, best place ever! My little one squeals and points every time we go past
  10. Sadly, no! It's back on Tues 22nd after Easter. We're missing it already.
  11. I lived there pre-children and liked it a lot - good transport links and lots of friendly people. It used to have a bit of a bad rep (this was 10 years ago!) but I never had any trouble at all. I know a lot of people are moving there because you can get nice houses that aren't as pricey as ED and the schools are good. Blythe Hill Fields is nice and the 202 bus goes from Blackheath to Crystal Palace for a day out. Definitely try Sapporo Japanese restaurant on Catford Broadway - it's ace! And Babur is amazing for a curry.
  12. We love Magic Moments creche, which is at Bew Court on Lordship Lane. Sessions are 9.45 to 12.15 and it's a really good introduction to nursery - the ladies are lovely, and particularly good at helping children settle. My little girl started at 18 months and loves it! Open every day apart from Weds.
  13. Aw, you have our sympathies. My 4-year-old has eczema patches on the backs of her knees which are really flaring up at the moment, but whenever I use sunscreen it does seem to improve. I don't know if this is just seasonal/coincidence. We use L'Oreal Kids. It's the waterproof one, but I have sensitive skin too and never use waterproof sunscreen.
  14. Right, now I'm furious. Southwark said they'd reduce the ridiculo-costs of the 'electrical checks' done by Swann Services by 47 percent, but now they're saying that's 47 percent off the total amount, which they'd already made a section 20 adjustment on. So they're offering me ?27.24 off the huge bill. Anyone else had any reply from them?
  15. Once you've done your first trip you'll be fine! Always choose the Jubilee line if you're going further as they have the best lifts. I can still remember the fear the first time I went anywhere with a baby though, we all have it.
  16. One thing you will notice if you move over that way is how handy the high street is. The Lidl is excellent and there are loads of shops selling things you actually need!
  17. Anyone know what time it opens in the morning?
  18. Hey fellow leaseholders, I emailed just about everyone at Southwark about this refund and the man who replied - both by email and phone call - and was very helpful was Chris Flynn. Apparently it's on its way, so keep chasing...
  19. How old is he? My eldest had screamy evenings (6-9 every night) and it's really hard. There's a move you can do where you lay them along your arm that helps a bit - er, google tiger in the tree. You have my sympathies as it does tip you over the edge and we didn't really find a solution until things improved at 13 weeks.
  20. Seeing the thread about treats/days out for a 5-year old reminded me of this in Brixton, which I went to before Christmas: http://www.bigfishlittlefishevents.co.uk/ It's a rave for kids, with good music from, ahem, the olden days and a lovely atmosphere. Trying to persuade my little one to go for her birthday. Think it's monthly, next one's 15th Feb.
  21. I never did any online shopping until I became trapped in Lordship Lane with two children. My favourite place at the moment is Forever 21. (Even though I haven't been 21 for a good 20 years!) But the quality of their basics is great - t-shirts for a few pounds and the most amazing seven-quid jeans I've ever encountered. I really hate that article about mum frumps! Everyone needs a mum coat - mine has a massive hood.
  22. Woo-hoo! One week until we leave sunny ED for Sydenham and all this makes me very excited. When I was looking to buy, I did find that nice 3-bed houses rarely came up so move quick if you see one and bear in mind you may end up in a bidding war. We went trick or treating round all the local shops and the high street had a great atmosphere, I also like Wells Park with its sprinklers and That's Amore restaurant, where the owner sings - I think he made it to Eurovision once.
  23. I'm about to move house and I have some furniture that I won't have room for (eg dining table and chairs). It's not in perfect condition, but it's a lovely design and would be fine with a tablecloth over it, so does anyone know of any charities that could use it? Thanks.
  24. My little girl went there two years ago and loved it. The staff are really nice. She was three when she started, and settled within ten minutes!
  25. Ha, he didn't reply, but someone else did!
