  1. A lot of talk from right-wing types about this case 'setting a dangerous precedent', but as legal expert Prof Steve Peers has pointed out, ''jury verdicts don't set precedents at all'' Funny how there's no concern from them for a Gov that wants to take away the right to protest if it causes ''unease'', whatever that means. Seems to me this is more about not agreeing with the jury's verdict than how our judicial system works...
  2. It must've been sometime after I posted. Here are the three games that have been added to Week 18... Tuesday 11th January Southampton v Brentford Everton v Leicester City Wednesday 12th January West Ham United v Norwich City
  3. Waiting on PA to update the weekly scores...

You need to have a nice cup of tea and a > sit down. No, just the 'if you can't beat them, join them'' mentality of malumbu's post rather than what the Vichy regime actually stood for. Good idea about a cuppa though...
  5. malumbu's gone all Vichy, would you like your tummy tickled while you're adopting the submission position? I'm glad you can 'move on' from Brexit, many people can't, many have been directly affected by Brexit and continue to do so. The best thing people can do to 'improve society' is 'focus energies on how you can improve things for society' by calling out Brexit for what it is, and work towards closer ties to the EU by ''campaigning, getting involved in local or national politics, volunteering and the like.' There, fixed it for you...
  6. Arsenal fans would be right to feel aggrieved after that refereeing performance. New Year, same old inconsistencies...

  11. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without carols from King's College, Cambridge...
  12. I thought This Country was good, if you don't mind the docu/comedy format worth giving it a try. I'd second Two Doors Down if you like gentle/observational humour, recently watched the Christmas special so should be available on iPlayer. Detectorists is in a similar vein, again should be available on iPlayer...
  13. Ground for outdoors, floor for indoors...
  14. I tried to copy and paste this article as I know some people don't like clicking on links, but it came up with a copyright warning so you'll have to make do with the link... https://www.ft.com/content/bc0563c8-f6ac-40f0-83d4-943ed08a2d79?shareType=nongift It's about the thoughts of 3 small UK companies who traded within the EU and continue to do so post-Brexit, and how the first year of Brexit has impacted on them, in particular by creating an 'internal border of red tape'. It's not sexy and won't show up on any 'balance sheet economist' spreadsheet, merely highlights what it's like at the Brexit coal face for the thousands of similar sized businesses and livelihoods...
  15. Re. Liz Truss, it's all about positioning herself for a leadership challenge, and that will include pandering to the ERG nutters. All sounds very familiar and with a predicable outcome when they encounter reality...
  16. I just hope that the fishing and farming communities remember who it was who sold them down the river for their own political gains, and when someone like Johnson/Gove/Farage rocks up for another photo-stunt, they run them out of town There were signs with the recent by-election that this is so, for such a Brexity community to then vote for a candidate with uber-remain credentials shows you just how much discontent there must be right now. Of course there will always be winners and losers in any major economic change of direction, there have even been winners during this pandemic. But Brexit wasn't sold on that premise, quite the opposite in fact for the fishing and farming sectors, as it was all about a chance to 'take back control' and prosper. I'm sure what now gripes with a lot of people is the casual off-handedness that such 'collateral damage' was always factored in. Claims to being sympathetic to people's plights ring hollow when you remember that they voted knowingly to put them in that plight in the first place...
  17. Week 16 points... Week 16 table...
  18. Can't recall attending any office meeting where the boss' wife was in attendance. Office parties/social get-togethers on the other hand...
  19. In your dreams...rent free
  20. Show us the minutes of the 'meeting'...:)
