Well done you.
  2. ..but the W Dulwich one is for Lambeth residents only and they often ask for proof of address to stop the Soutwark people going in. Takes much longer to get to Manor Place. Just think up an address in Lambeth and try that if asked. Once in, the guys are usually very helpful.
  3. I have been commuting this way for years and having tried every different route possible, I now go on the main route from Denmark Hill - Camberwell Green - Walworth Road - Elephant & Castle - Borough High Street - London Bridge - Bishopsgate. Sticking to the main road minimises your risks of constantly turning left/right etc and with most cars going the same way, less risk also of other hazards. Main problem with this is the occasional last second u-turn nut. From a speed point of view, I don't think there is any noticeable difference in the time it takes to get there.
  4. Next you'll be telling us that Charlie Chaplin grew up in the Walworth Road...
  5. When this happened last year, I emailed Southwark to complain about lack of gritting and they sent a snotty reply saying that they had been out gritting pavements, but worked on a priority basis i.e. main roads first and that somewhere like Dulwich Village was not a priority and that it wasn't that bad anyway. Nice. So on that basis, there seems little hope that residential roads are going to get any attention. Despite all that - I have not seen a single gritter in the Dulwich area this year anyway.

  7. Muley - funniest post I've seen here, made me laugh out loud. Thank you. Sums this place up perfectly.
  8. There I was again this evening in Sainsbury's and spotted the same BMW parked in the same disabled bay - and nearby the same non-disabled Sainsburys employee who owns the car, collecting trolleys. So I pull up along side and: Me "is that your BMW in the disabled bay" Him "Yes" Me "are you disabled" Him "no" Me" So why do you park your car in the disabled bay?" Him "it's only temporary" Me "but I've seen you before, parking there" Him "but it's only temporary" Me "what do you mean by temporary - the length of your shift" Him "it's only temporary" ..ok so I get the message - it's only temporary. I wouldn't care except that I just know I would get a ticket straight away of I parked illegally in one of those bays. I called the phone number for customer services, but they did not answer at all - oxymoron? I am the only one who thinks this is outrageous that a Sainsbury employee openly parks in a disabled bay? How can I bring this to the attention of someone who gives a s**t? (see previous post about this individual) Maybe a blockade around his car will do the trick. Maybe we could get Sly and Reggie to bring this loudly to the attention of Sainsbury's management!?!?
  9. There is something like 57 local groups that use Alleyns facilties every week which equates with the school being used 75 hours a week, 52 weeks a year by other people.
  10. ..and I'm surprised, but very pleased, to hear that Sainsburys do actually ticket people parked wrongly in the disabled bays. I wonder how many of their own employees have been issued with tickets?

  12. Oh calm down - it's not exactly every weekend. Don't the constant emergency services sirens cause you more of a disturbance? Oh not, that would be very non pc...
  13. All wrong - Dulwich College Founders Day finale - free for your delight. Here we go...
  14. Founders Day at Alleyns.... ... here we go
  15. At about 7pm this evening, finally managed to park up in Sainsburys and when I was walking up to the store, through the disabled parking section this BMW pulled into a disabled space and a 20 something male got out, in full Sainsbury's uniform and started work collecting up the trolleys. And before you ask, no he wasn't disabled and no, he wasn't displaying a badge in his car. With all the sensitivities around wrongly parking in these bays, and the sign saying that you will be fined ?50, I thought it was a bit much for an employee to be abusing the bays. The customer service desk 'apologised' a lot, but didn't ask which car it was etc and when I volunteered I just got one of those grins which said yeah yeah yeah.
  16. Bob - it would serve you right to have your car pinched after such and a**e of a post. She was only trying to warn people.
  17. Anyone have the pleasure of being asked for cash by the male and female drunks outside Londis this evening - I watched them for a while and they were fairly intimidating to anyone who passed them by and even threatened one guy. They were fairly well dressed and quite young, but generally a pain in the a**e. They also worked their way up and down the outside tables of The Palmerston No doubt someone will be on saying that they are just trying to scrape a living, but for me, they should have been moved on. Discuss.
  18. No - it's horrible. Stay where you are. And if you read this forum, you can see what a venemous, complaining, angry, unahppy bunch live in the area
  19. Where were these break-ins? Might others to be extra careful
  20. So you already decided the driver was at fault. The arrest is standard practice in such indidents - doesn't mean he is guilty.
  21. The fact is parking in zebra zig zags is an offence with a fixed penalty and 3 points on your licence - but I have yet to see it enforced in Dulwich - either at Goose Green or where people reguarly park in Dulwich Village outside Pizza Express on both sides of the riad, also blocking the zebra.
  22. And the big Ford dealership (Hartwell Ford) which is now a block of flats opposite Goose Green playground
  23. That is the Court Lane entrance - and the house is still there!
  24. Same experience here - what level of incompetence have they sunk to that at 2.30pm there was no chicken, no beef, no lamb and almost everything else I had gone for was out of stock as well. What a shambles of a place. Surely a big supermarket like this must have better planning in place - busy on a Sunday should not exactly be a surprise.
