  1. It funny how a something like a Swastika has been high jacked by others to turn it into something horrible.
  2. I loved Falconry as we did this in school in Clapham Common Park fascinating birds.
  3. As a child I wanted a black doll something that related to me, after given my mum earache she took me to the toy shop to buy one there were not many black dolls growing up in the 70s there were a few Golliywogs still around. But I did not like them from a point of view as a child when you buy a doll you want to comb there hair and dress them up I could not do this with Golii doll as it was a rag doll that is the way I saw it. My white childhood friends new it was a black doll but they were intelligent to know that black people do not look like that so in the end mum asked a relative to bring one back from the Caribbean this doll I loved it had an afro hair funky 70s clothes had this doll for many years.
  4. To some people it is, like I said in my last thread some peole find it offensive some don?t I am just looking at both side of the argument please below the Origins of the Golliwog it has mixed points of view as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golliwogg
  5. Glad to hear it Sue, my point is that it is not the Union Jack or the Swastikas are offensive it is what it was used to symbolised is.
  6. Drink me - Johnny Cash
  7. I must confess I did watch it, I was surprised how many European countries sang in English the last time I watch Eurovision was in the 80s things definitely moved on since then and what I do not understand is if it is a European contest how comes Israel can enter the competition?
  8. I am not sure if the doll is racist itself, it is what the doll symbolised to people of colour some find the doll offensive some don?t you can also argue the point that the Union Jack and the Swastika is also offensive to some ethnic groups as well. My mother group up playing with a very pale white Victorian porcelain doll maybe some might find that offensive too.
  9. Do people still watch Eurovision it a bit OTT.
  10. I think this will be the jewel in the crown, for Cameron the Tory leader to hold a state funeral for Thatcher. I just curious no doubt all the conservative party will be there as she was there Boadicea reincarnated but will the Lib/Dems attend as they are part of the collision or will this be too much for there supporters.
  11. She was a tough old bird, no doubt she will receive a state funeral if Cameron has anything to do with after all he son of Thacher.
  12. I understand both points the aspect I like about Europe, you have mentioned in your thread freedom of movement etc???.. But what I am not comfortable about is the human rights yes I am for it in Principal but I feel it is sometimes abused there has been high profile cases regarding the human rights law. How does France and Italy get way with picking and choosing which of the law they wish to up hold and other laws they ignore I find it all mind boggling?
  13. I take it there will be no lick lick this summer then:))
  14. Waiting For The Ghost Train - Madness
  15. Can?t we enjoy other aspects of Europe, without being part of it do really have to pay millions and then be told how to govern our country never understood how it all works?
  16. LM wrote ------------------------------------------------- To be fair, older people have for years been treated as on the scrapheap by employers - the result of age discrimination. I.e. the problem had little to do with the coalition's spending review and/or cuts, etc. However, unemployment in that sector will of course now be exacerbated as these cuts take effect. But it tends to be a lot worse under the Tories coalition you may call it. On the scrapheap over 50s youth employments is rising but you do have point LM

It seems to be the look, these days the shaggy look from Scooby doo or the Catweazle look. I can?t bear the hair styles you see on some of the teenage boys who look like they have been stuck in a wind tunnel;-)
  21. Taper wrote ------------------------------------------------------- 'I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.' Give me the old fashion drawn and quarter method, and send his parts to all the Al qaeda cells as a deterrent ( fast chance of seeing that)
  22. Very witty Willard. Will all the Conspiracy theorists be convinced once they show proof of his burial at sea or should they have put his head on a spike at the White House?
  23. You both made some really good points DJKQ and LM, there will be more people on the bread line as they are more job losses as I wrote in another thread there are different types of poverty I think some people believe just because you have a form of roof over head and in receipt of some benefits that you are not poor not all people on benefits are work shy or scroungers. It is very disheartening when you have worked most of your life to find yourselves on the scrap heap.
  24. Very Good :))
