James Barber wrote The coalition government has offered ?77M towards making Southwark council homes decent. Southwark has to prove in the next 12 months it can spend this money wisely. This is added to the ?45M a year current tenants contribute towards decent homes pa via rent. So total of ?257M of the ?330M required to makes all homes decent by the next local elections. To help close that gap the new adiministration is increasing the sale of council homes such as those ascquired decades ago in the likes of East Dulwich street as they become free If they'll cost more than a certain amount to make decent - the new much lower number of ?15,000 has stuck in my brain and I don't have the time today to double check this. But no to street properties as some of my neighbours are still waiting to hear, what's going on with that?

Not only that DJKQ where I live a lot of my neighbours have no coverings on there windows they just have the main curtains and no nets or shutters so you can see what they have in there houses I think that does no help.

Yes I can relate to this very well, when my daughters was younger I worked in the public sector as this was the only jobs that was flexible to me at the time it does tend to be women that round around although I did have help from my other half but it was all down to me.

What the hell is going in ED!! They tried to burgle my neighbours house last weekend in the middle of the night they got as far as the conservatory they broke a few windows but they could not get in she has now put up barbed wires.

Cuts and poverty are linked; don?t be surprised if crime will increase because of this and discord in communities.

This is something I have always known, there are children living in poverty and this is not just because parents cannot be bothered to work. There are some families that do work but only living on minimum wage when I was at school there where some children only had a descent hot meal when they came to school this is not new I think poverty can be over shadowed by other issues because people think we live in a rich country and poor families have a roof over there heads and running water from the tape you not considered poor but there are different types of poverty. This does need to be addressed but because of the cuts and changes in our benefit system the families that need help may suffer.

Thanks Malarkey this quite useful to know this, although him indoors does not go to a synagogue regular it is good to know there is a small Jewish community in South London as it tends to be in the north. His family orignaly came from the East End and then settled in Essex
