  1. Someone's blabbed ! Mrs ed_pete called to say that while in WR this morning there was a hard copy of this thread on the counter and it was being actively discussed !
  2. A debate on the merits of diversification is veering off-topic and lounge bound, so I'll leave it there.
  3. Sean - I am sure there are many less diverse countries in the world that would lay claim to "energy, understanding, learning, cuisine, culture". Besides, why do we equate diversity with race. Diversity in my book also means age, sexual orientation, wealth, political leaning etc.
  4. The answer to that problem lies in the making the "old-lady" (no offence to any old-ladies) style shopping trolley fashionable again so why not start a new trend TT. Apparently Orla Kiely makes one [http://www.guardian.co.uk/family/story/0,,1809939,00.html].
  5. Is there an assumption that more diversity=good, and less diversity=bad? Why ?.
  6. Sean - I think if I'd been shopping somewhere every week for six months and were then turned down for not being a "regular" I'd be inclined to take my business elsewhere. I probably go in about once a month, and my wife about two out of every three weeks but given the huge number of customers and the large number of serving staff I'd be surprised if they recognised me. I wasn't joking when I said membership cards - why not offer cards to people at the start of the year that are stamped at every visit then state the minimum required to join the turkey ordering club. At the moment it too subjective. May be OTT for a high street butchers but it would prevent the kind of problems suffered by the OP.
  7. Define "regular" - perhaps they should give out membership cards.
  8. Chav/Maurice - can you take your f'ing party political bickering elsewhere and stop using this post as bloody soapbox.
  9. And now another bloody Yoga one (6)
  10. Received the following email today and thought forum members might be interested: On August 17 2007 the council began a six-week consultation period with residents of East Dulwich, Nunhead, Peckham Rye, South Camberwell and The Lane by posting 26,000 letters and business reply cards to them. At the same time, the council posted 6,500 letters and cards to regular users of the Centre and invited all clubs that use the facilities to email their members in order to ensure that they were also included in the consultation. To see the results of the consultation report along with revised frequently asked questions please use the hyperlinks which will take you to the relevant pages on our web site. The consultation is also available in printed format at the Centre reception. Of course we would like you to read the report in full and urge you to take a few minutes to do so, however the headlines of the consultation are; of the 32,500 letters and reply cards posted we received 2,236 replies (a response rate of 6.8%), with 1,292 current Centre users taking part. The respondents were vocal when it came to refurbishment topics around; changing rooms, pool, cr?che, cycle parking, disabled access, membership and environmental green issues. All of these points and more have been responded to in the report. As a result of this consultation report and meetings with stakeholders the council will host an exhibition at Dulwich Leisure Centre on Saturday November 24 from 2 to 4pm. Here you will see conceptual designs of the new refurbishment along with proposed outlines of details to be included. Tea and coffee will be provided and you and your family are most welcome to come along. Southwark Council is committed to providing top class swimming and leisure facilities to all residents and users in the borough, and is making this investment for the wellbeing of its users now and for years to come. I look forward to seeing you at the exhibition meeting in November. Yours sincerely Councillor Lorraine Zuleta Executive Member for Culture, Leisure & Sports
  11. Replying to my own question, how about a sticky in the "General ED issues / gossip" and "Wanted, offered & recommendations" sections with the heading "PLEASE USE THE SEARCH BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION - IT MAY HAVE ALREADY BEEN ANSWERED. IF YOU DON'T THEN PREPARE TO RECEIVE SHORT SHRIFT"
  12. When the same questions crop up again and again... (oops I haven't checked to see if anyone's asked this before so apologies in advance)
  13. Snorky - move to a less affluent area and you might find it more tricky to shift those Banksy prints...;-)
  14. Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall? It's the time that every Santa has a ball Does he ride a red nosed reindeer? Does a 'ton up' on his sleigh Do the fairies keep him sober for a day? *sneaks quietly away in pre-Xmas shame...*
  15. Changed to the Odeon in 1936 - looks much less attractive but on closer inspection just looks like the central triangular bit was removed and the horizontal blocks (not the correct architectural term I am sure) removed

    Phishing

I have two email addresses but tend to use the same one all the time and I receive very little spam (no offers of viagra, appendige pumps etc). Could be down to NTL/Virgin Media possibly, or maybe my good luck.
