  1. We are getting post one or two days a week.
  2. I'm very likely to be wrong but wont 600m walking distance translate to something much smaller as the crow flies? Which may explain Goodrich nursery's new 200m catchment?
  3. Hope it does not put you off the area, I'm feeling much more optimistic about school places now and hoping this crisis will give local schools a real boost! Less popular schools they should improve really quickly with help (the council really needs these schools to improve fast due to the shortage of local places). The intake of these schools should become more representative of the area as people will have no choice but to send their kids there and this should in turn encourage people to send their kids there. Just don't do what a lot of people did and not put down any of the less popular schools leaving them a very long commute to a school they didnt choose!
  4. In his defence I interpreted James's comments to reflect the fact that a faith school is selective and therefore has a very large catchment area and may not help releave the shortage of places in the hotspots (or blackholes as they have been refered to) rather than being down on religion. sian Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > James are you opposed to increasing provision in > local faith schools? 5. Not a black hole. You would have no trouble getting into Rye Oak or Goose Green both less than half a mile away.
  6. The ?1,000000 question that no one is answering! I know councillors have to be sensitive as they are probably negotiating with schools but the frequent references to a 'bilp' last year just feel wrong, as i keep reading, we are not out of the woods yet! applicatios for September are unlikely to be much smaller and may be massive. Three kids became very fashionable around here a few years back which may explain the sibling numbers. The limited numbers of nursery places are really spooking people! (As an indicator of demand next year) I'm hoping that the meeting on the 12th will work this one out. Edited to add Join http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=120669739604&ref=ts A nonpartisan site to unite parents concerned about the shortage of primary schools places.
  7. Oh dear.... I didn't suggest Homestall, Lisa Rajan told me in person that it was there or the Rye and i commented that as the Rye was out of the question there were no other options. Also from what i gather ED has responded quite nicely. Many parents are throwing themselves behind the schools they did not choose but got, joining pta's, organising cake backs etc. With this type of support and a bit of organisation creating space where sensible ED schools may really thrive, but people will probably only throw themselves behind their 'local' school and not one miles away.
  8. It seems to have shrunk in that year, extra siblings due to bulge class? Goodrich said they go on distance from the nursery measured by some council system. If there are no nursery places for the local children then thats one major issue that needs to be addressed. If people have been faking their addresses for the last few years thats another. There is going to be a government 'scrutiny' meeting in ED in the 12th of October on primary and nursery places, where we should get some answers. Place to be anounced but open to public and the more the merrier! There is a facebook site to unite parents concerned about the crisis in local school places http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=120669739604&ref=ts PS do really want to know if admissions catchment for nursery has shrunk again this yeart as it predicts places next!
  9. Hebers nursery had only 30 spaces and they all went to siblings.
  10. Had phonecall from upset friend who was told by the school that there was no chance of their child getting into Goodrich nursery as the catchment is 200m at the mo???? I know this is true for Heber but Goodrich has a big nursery. Things are bad but this is way beyond a joke. Did anyone get in who lives further? (obviously without siblings etc)
  11. We got one very early on with our first, really recomend them. I'll be an old lady rocking away in it, reminising about when my son's were babies.
  12. The facebook page is just a forum to unite parents. If anyone wants to start something more, i'm in! Have to comment on huncamunca's post. Its a bit rough to question wheather a parent is calling a school 'failing' because of the intake. Failing is failing (special measures), and sleepy bunny has every right to feel let down if the only school her child can go to is in special measures. Its not wrong to want your childs school well managed. Edited to be less grumpy
  13. Fennel tea is supposed to boost production. My milk dropped when i started back at work and when i moved houes, but it did come back. The best way to keep production up might just be getting enough rest and reducing stress. Difficult with a busy life and a baby. Good Luck.
  14. Fiona Colley Labour Member for Nunhead, has sucessfully pushed for the Children's Scrutiny Committee to start an investigation into Primary School Places in Southwark at their next meeting in early October. This follows this years admissions nightmare were many families who put their closest school as first choice were places the other side of Peckham as there are just not enough school places! 15 families were going to have to be placed OVER two miles away. To learn more see thread in Family Room Primary school places 2010, or support your local community by joining the East Dulwich and Peckham Rye Facebook page. If nothing more you get to see all the input from many of your local councillors and get to know those running in the local elections May (ish?) 2010. Please do support local families and join http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=120669739604&ref=ts
  15. We have had an interesting post from Nunheads Labour councillor, check out the other thread or the facebook page.
  16. Very pleased to report that this facebook group has had input from a range of local councillors. If you are interested in this issue please join and invite your friends to join. It is relevant to anyone who has been through the admissions drama this year, anyone applying for 2010 and anyone who will be applying from here on in, if you have a baby or are expecting! It is a group page so no one will have access to your own page. Come and have a look using the link above.
  17. If anyone is in the process of applying or is interested for any reason please join the East Dulwich and Psckham Rye Primary School Places facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/search/?init=srp&sfxp=&o=&q=East+Dulwich+primary#/group.php?gid=120669739604 Its a facebook group for any parents concerned about the crisis in local school places.
  18. God i hope not i find him a bit scary.
  19. Beginning to think The Rye does not exist at all. After moving from near GG to honor oak corner of the Rye (which rocks despite being invisable!) we dont get living south, or SE22 mag and there are no places for our kids to goto school, its not that we are not in ED anymore.... we are nowhere....spooky Edited to add that according to some we also dont really have chips
  20. Sorry but also have to say avoid Melbourn Grove, Forest Hill Road is good but probably too far for you.
  21. And they will probably not get through all of the kids who quallify for criteria 4, which is quite frankly rubbish!
  22. This whole business started for me when my neighbour handed me all of the paperwork she had from trying to get her daughter into the nearest school, Goodrich. She didnt get into ANY of the nearest schools and was sent to Peckham park, the buldge sorted them out. We live around 700m away so not holding my breath. Bit gutted at the mo! Edited to add that my neighbour had put our nearest school as first choice.
  23. Thanks for the feedback. Didnt realise Heber got bulged? If, as is suggested we have used up the emergency measure (bulge classes) in the most needed areas, those coming through next year, considering the additional sibling burden, are totally screwed? Edited to add If anyone is in the process of applying or is interested for any reason please join the East Dulwich and Psckham Rye Primary School Places facebook page. [www.facebook.com] Its a facebook group for any parents concerned about the crisis in local school places.
  24. Except if your closest school is super popular...moan...moan...grumble. Thanks for this info Fuschis, I might get my measuring tape out (only half joking). Edited to add... Do you know if this distance is from before or after the addition of the buldge classs?
  25. Appologies to the Dullard My husband has just told me the one by the Herne is not a chip shop but an Indian take away. New to the area, i got it wrong!!!!.
