Re Leeds, try the journey planner on the RWC website for options. Will be running shuttle buses to the ground. There should also be a marked walking route in place on the day.

We had problems several years ago from the builders yard round back of East Dulwich Station with the reverse beeps of their vehicles resonating across St Francis Estate very early in the morning. They managed to tone them down - not sure how.

Closure of Melbourne Grove to through traffic - new petition
lpool replied to tiddles's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James You maintain two way street but have a no entry at one end. Personally I will be opposing this scheme as it stands. I find it hard to believe there are not more effective traffic calming measures that could be deployed. -
Closure of Melbourne Grove to through traffic - new petition
lpool replied to tiddles's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Having looked at the proposal, if this is to go ahead I would suggest a very short trial period is necessary to see if it actually works. 4 weeks maximum. Before this can be done traffic measurement of Ashbourne Grove, Chesterfield Grove, Blackwater and Bassano would have to be done for a similar time period. If the evidence of the trial period shows that there is an increase in traffic volumes on these roads then the proposal should be abandoned and re-looked at. Making Melbourne Grove one-way onto Lordship Lane is another option, but again it is likely to increase traffic on neighbouring roads. There is also the option to make the above roads No Entry from Melbourne Grove. This allows cars to come down or go up to Lordship Lane, but prevents being used as a cut through from Melbourne Grove. It sounds like many of the Melbourne Grove residents are happy to drive to the end of Melbourne Grove and out via Lordship Lane. -
New owners do rooms at a number of their pubs. Does Cherry Tree have space upstairs for potential B&B? It would be good to have something in East Dulwich so close to the station.

Beware - car crash scammer opposite Co-op
lpool replied to buddug's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We had an incident last week which I couldn't decide was genuine or a scam. Someone had parked part way across our driveway. We managed to get pass it when going out but when came back had a note through our door saying we had hit their car. The irony was that firstly, the car was illegally parked, and secondly, we had been forced to turn left because of the way it had been parked, making it impossible for us to have caused the alleged damage. -
Will be getting 200 purpose built theatre in Peckham in 2016.

Saw The Clockmaker's Daughter at The Landor in Clapham at the weekend and thought it was amazing. Press reviews today all agree. Well worth a visit.

Laptop Squatters (especially Cafe Nero in Lordship Lane)
lpool replied to Chief's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sat in Cafe Nero and the place is almost empty. Looks like original poster has scared away the squatters. -
2nd Gypsy, Imelda Staunton is brilliant in it. Saw Dead of Night at Landor last week and worthy of good reviews it has received. Off to see Carrie at Southwark Playhouse tomorrow - thinking of taking a plastic sheet as told there is a lot of blood splashing around the stage/floor area. Reviews have been excellent.

Potential disruption at London Bridge station

Could explain why BBC put out a revised version of statement soon after with no mention of nannies. -
Down to 2 hours 20m including the interval.

Only just spotted this thread, despite averaging a show a week much of the time. Agree "The Play That Went Wrong" is worth going to if you like Fawlty Towers style humour. Saw These Trees Are Made of Blood at Southwark Playhouse at the weekend and rated it as possibly the most brilliant show I have ever seen. It is highly emotive, at times very funny, and by the end had both audience and cast in tears. Probably qualifies as a "political musical", it deals with the subject of the disappearance of 30,000 students in Argentina in the late 1970s. Staging is in a Buenos Aries cabaret club with a fantastic band who also act out various roles during the show. Twitter has been buzzing with first viewings and reviews have been great. It is in the smaller theatre so starting to sell out on nights as word gets round. If you are lucky enough to go see it take a large box of tissues - you may need it at the end.

Potential disruption at London Bridge station
lpool replied to Rolo Tomasi's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This could be a blow for East Dulwich nannies given announcement last week by the rail minister that London Bridge problems being fixed immediately so people can get home to relieve the nanny. I expect she was thinking of East Dulwich at the time. -
There are some strange folk about. My wife had someone at the door last week doing the selling stuff from suitcase - saying part of prison probation scheme etc. Wife is disabled and had been resting - only opened door as thought parcel expecting. Explained she couldn't stand at door and he went off on one being very aggressive and abusive. Parting comment was to hope she had a f.....g crashed the car when next in it. Not the greatest sales pitch I have ever heard.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
lpool replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
In recent weeks there has been a noticeable tail back of traffic coming down Dog Kennel Hill as caughts at red lights just before East Dulwich Station. This is because the feeder bus lane lights have been left on auto and means that they constantly switch between the bus lane and road about every 30-45 secs despite no buses. Previously the bus lane was operated by approaching buses. The result is a large build up of traffic causing congestion back to the top of the hill, as well as preventing flow of traffic out of Edgar Kail Way. Is it possible to ask Southwark Transport section to revert back original bus operated system. -

Appeals against PCNs issued by local authorities are much harder than if it was on private land as different rules tend to apply. As mentioned by other posters there normally needs to be clear evidence that you were not at fault, such as lack of signage etc. The only successful appeal I had against a London borough was against a failure to display ticket in wondow. The ticket was there but reverse side showing. Fortunately a unique serial number gets printed on both sides and I could prove that the warden had the ability to check against the serial code to check details. I was also able to argue that the ticket was clearly displayed - as it did not specify which side had to be face up.

You may have a better response if you write to your local MP and ask them to submit a FOI to the DfT on the number of short formed services during peak time and a break down of reasons for each incident. Plus seek confirmation that the train operator is being held to account for its franchise obligations.

Train journey times from ED to LB
lpool replied to missyelliott's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
To be clear re Charing Cross trains. They will not be stopping at London Bridge. I believe trains to Cannon Street will still call at London Bridge. My advice is to use alternate London stations until the problems at London Bridge are resolved. There is a scheme in place that allows you to travel to an alternative connecting station using existing ticket. If using a season ticket you may need to the ticket office and get them to update it with correct codes that allow the ticket to function on connecting routes such as London Underground. Details as follows: Southern and Thameslink passengers with a season ticket bought before 10 November 2014 that expires after 4 January 2015 should go to their local Southern or Thameslink ticket office for their ticket to be reissued. You do not need to do this if you have the Southern Key or a Travelcard valid in zone 1. Further information can be found on Southern and Thameslink?s websites. -
Hadley has deep pockets and the original investment was not very large. I would expect them to have a medium term plan, knowing that they may not succeed in their objective of developing the existing stadium in the short term. Allowing DHFC to go under in the interim could be a PR disaster so I would be surprised if they simply pulled the plug.

I like this quote from Bellenden on their website: "We are acutely aware of the strict regulations around consultation from the Planning Inspectorate and have a successful track record of exceeding these requirements when submissions are made." As James says, they are a serious PR group.

New stats out on station usage. Denmark Hill now 79th most bust station. East Dulwich quite a bit further down the list. Over 2 million trips to/from the station each year though. http://orr.gov.uk/statistics/published-stats/station-usage-estimates
