  1. Hard to see the Rye being capable of anything bigger than about 5,000. Very small area and transport links not good enough for large event.
  2. I miss the old layout at Blue Mountain with the red Chinese room. Great place to go and hide away. Not into big open spaces.
  3. I'd just be grateful for some mail from the sorting office. 12 days and counting.
  4. There was a very good interview with the author on the Radio 4 Front Row programme this week (think Monday).
  5. Re Eurosport Twitter the BBC Football Gossip column today also covered this. Never thought I would see the day when DHFC would appear in the BBC Gossip section.
  6. Not used Green @ Teggin but like fact they ensure they only take on work that can be managed at any one time. Got badly stung by an architectural company who had a habit of vanishing because too busy juggling different jobs.
  7. Re Leeds, try the journey planner on the RWC website for options. Will be running shuttle buses to the ground. There should also be a marked walking route in place on the day.
  8. We had problems several years ago from the builders yard round back of East Dulwich Station with the reverse beeps of their vehicles resonating across St Francis Estate very early in the morning. They managed to tone them down - not sure how.
  9. James You maintain two way street but have a no entry at one end. Personally I will be opposing this scheme as it stands. I find it hard to believe there are not more effective traffic calming measures that could be deployed.
  10. Having looked at the proposal, if this is to go ahead I would suggest a very short trial period is necessary to see if it actually works. 4 weeks maximum. Before this can be done traffic measurement of Ashbourne Grove, Chesterfield Grove, Blackwater and Bassano would have to be done for a similar time period. If the evidence of the trial period shows that there is an increase in traffic volumes on these roads then the proposal should be abandoned and re-looked at. Making Melbourne Grove one-way onto Lordship Lane is another option, but again it is likely to increase traffic on neighbouring roads. There is also the option to make the above roads No Entry from Melbourne Grove. This allows cars to come down or go up to Lordship Lane, but prevents being used as a cut through from Melbourne Grove. It sounds like many of the Melbourne Grove residents are happy to drive to the end of Melbourne Grove and out via Lordship Lane.
  11. New owners do rooms at a number of their pubs. Does Cherry Tree have space upstairs for potential B&B? It would be good to have something in East Dulwich so close to the station.
  12. We had an incident last week which I couldn't decide was genuine or a scam. Someone had parked part way across our driveway. We managed to get pass it when going out but when came back had a note through our door saying we had hit their car. The irony was that firstly, the car was illegally parked, and secondly, we had been forced to turn left because of the way it had been parked, making it impossible for us to have caused the alleged damage.
  13. Will be getting 200 purpose built theatre in Peckham in 2016.
  14. Saw The Clockmaker's Daughter at The Landor in Clapham at the weekend and thought it was amazing. Press reviews today all agree. Well worth a visit.
  15. Sat in Cafe Nero and the place is almost empty. Looks like original poster has scared away the squatters.
  16. I've never used private building control but can see possible advantages if they are reporting direct to you and not via a project manager/builder. I've found LABC to be good and always had same person from start to finish of project. We did have a serious problem on one project where the LABC reported through the designer/project manager, and twice we discovered we were being told LABC had requested specific works which they actually hadn't. Our contract meant we were liable for additional costs where works specified by the LABC. In an attempt to hide mistakes by the designer/project manager they used the cover of the LABC to claim extra works had been specified. Once I discovered this I ensured I obtained copies of all building control sign offs and work requests. I guess having an independent private building control person reporting direct to you could help avoid the need of employing a separate project manager and ensure you avoid the kind of problems we faced above.
  17. 2nd Gypsy, Imelda Staunton is brilliant in it. Saw Dead of Night at Landor last week and worthy of good reviews it has received. Off to see Carrie at Southwark Playhouse tomorrow - thinking of taking a plastic sheet as told there is a lot of blood splashing around the stage/floor area. Reviews have been excellent.
  18. If it is a case of freezer not getting cold but seems to be working, all you might need is a screwdriver and hair drier as chiller behind rear panel inside fridge can sometimes freeze up on a Maytag.
  19. I reckon yas actually loves the French Caf?, but is fed up that everyone else does as well so what better than to try and create a bit of space there with a few well chosen words on the EDF. For the record, only been there once as not too local for me, but friends go there all the time.
  20. Sounds like the dreaded black screen problem. I had it on my MacBook pro. Initially I was able to get it to start up following advice such as above (google the various suggested options) but eventually none worked. Various theories as to the cause of the problem - some say it is the video card that has failed.
  21. James, doesn't look like anything has been done yet to correct lights. Good job didn't ask it to be treated as non-urgent!
  22. Could explain why BBC put out a revised version of statement soon after with no mention of nannies.
  23. Down to 2 hours 20m including the interval.
  24. Only just spotted this thread, despite averaging a show a week much of the time. Agree "The Play That Went Wrong" is worth going to if you like Fawlty Towers style humour. Saw These Trees Are Made of Blood at Southwark Playhouse at the weekend and rated it as possibly the most brilliant show I have ever seen. It is highly emotive, at times very funny, and by the end had both audience and cast in tears. Probably qualifies as a "political musical", it deals with the subject of the disappearance of 30,000 students in Argentina in the late 1970s. Staging is in a Buenos Aries cabaret club with a fantastic band who also act out various roles during the show. Twitter has been buzzing with first viewings and reviews have been great. It is in the smaller theatre so starting to sell out on nights as word gets round. If you are lucky enough to go see it take a large box of tissues - you may need it at the end.
