I have something to do with transport for the Games and will aim to keep the forum updated as we get a bit closer on best ways to get there.

My wife mentioned the problems with the traffic yesterday and that it took 20 minutes on the bus to travel one stop towards Goose Green because of the roadworks. Someone needs to get the council to move the bus stop by the works to a temporary location and create a no-parking zone near the works to prevent the bottle-neck that seems to be being created during the day. My wife tried calling the Highways Office yesterday but just got passed around their office with no one wanting to take responsibility. If James Barber (or any other local councillor) is reading this then grateful if they can have a sensible word with Southwark.

Although no Adobe you can get an App that allows you to view flash video via third party. I use Skyfire.

Congratulations. Don't think a lot of people realise yet just how big this whole thing is. I'd encourage people to go on the Olympic Park tour to get an idea of the scale of it. And then they can go shopping at Westfield afterwards.

Pudding Lane expected to be shut during Olympics.

My advice at the moment is avoid the Jubilee Line as it will be hard to get on at certain times of the day. If on Overground go to Whitechapel then District to West Ham. A possible alternative to avoiding central London problems is drive to Ebbsfleet and catch Javelin to Stratford International. On the day it could work out quicker, especially coming home. You can book car space at Ebbsfleet via London2012 website.

House market definitely seems to be holding up better than flat market. We rent a house locally and never seem to have problems finding tenants. Location, even within East Dulwich, also seems to count for a lot. We're fortunate to live in a good central location and any houses in our road coming on the market seem to go under offer within few weeks. Last one didn't even make it on to estate agent notice board.

Question for Abbotswood / St Francis Estate people
lpool replied to Loz's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ours was a Wimpey and like Prude Law, located in the kitchen under the sink unit. -
This is not a new issue with the selling of council housing. I seem to remember Westminster did something similar - sold off part of a block and then charged for their share of repairs. With no sinking fund this can run into 10s of thousands a year. Anyone considering buying one of the flats for sale on Dog Kennel Hill should ensure their lawyer goes carefully through the service provision obligations. I once had a similar experience with a private landlord who owned a large row of terraced maisonettes. They sold about 35% and then proceeded to undertake major works, primarily on the unsold section. As all came under the same leasehold and management company, they were able to do this at the time.

They are filming all over East Dulwich. This morning Chesterfield Road seemed to be the location - next to the car wash.

on the plus side the train will be running from Peckham Rye by then so an easy journey to Stratford.

East Dulwich on Cowboy Builders this Wed (Feb16)

Some people seem happy to just hand over the money in the belief it will all be OK. When I was questioning work on an extension and refusing to pay any more money until problems sorted I was told that they were used to clients handing over the money up front, go away and don't get involved until finished. Not the way I do business though and potentially very costly. -
Unable to go along last night but interested to hear of any comments made. At the moment the application appears to have been pulled from the website. I've emailed Adrian Dennis to suggest letters go out addressed to "Owner" as so many houses in Abbotswood and surrounding roads are rented. At the moment they simply send them out addressed to "Occupier" so may never get seen by person who has a legal interest.

It's clear from the amount of work already done by the developer that this will run and run. It looks like they may have found a loophole to enable them to build on the car park. Given the cost of prime development land in London they are not going to walk away. On a plus side, if Sky Sports news is correct, DHFC could end up making a few bob out of two of their players who are being tracked by Man Utd, Arsenal and West Ham.

Quickly scanning through the main planning document it is clear that this is a proposal that likes to be conservative with the facts and therefore probably open to limited challenge. This is a very detailed submission and has already been reviewed several times by Southwark Planning. Their one big concern is impact on traffic and congestion. Maybe the most interesting comment is at para. 5.58 where it states the football club does not use the car park and is generally used as a car wash business. I have never known DHFC to not use the car park, apart from when it was occupied by travellers and the odd film set. Ironically, their Design and Access statement contradicts their planning statement, saying the football club does use the car park. Housing in the area is regarded as high density and 5 story high - no mention of the housing in the road it will actually be situated.Southwark Planning appears to have consented that a mix of 3 and 4 story would be acceptable. I cannot see the development being stopped unless there is a legal loophole re permission to build on the land. I expect the final version will be scaled down though. There is big money at stake as a scheme such as this is likely to generate a profit of at least ?10m, and financial incentives have been offered to Southwark. I have yet to find any mention of the impact on the football club - the corner section of main building is to be demolished but no indication where new entrance will be, or entrance to the football ground.

Will be directly affected by this and not seen any consultation documents so thanks for heads up. Mix of possible pros and cons. A decent block of flats could help enhance area as car park is always in a mess and a favourite spot for dumping. Agree 5 story feels a bit overpowering - 3 or 4 max would seem to be the norm. Also, only 30 car park spaces for 60 flats is way too low. Car parking is always a problem and cannot see how they can put forward a proposal without having alternative for football traffic. Sainsburys car park is a non starter given the time restriction. There is limited access for lorries etc as Abbotswood Road is not very wide making it unsuitable for vehicles to be parked in the road by the car park.

They were planning to shut at 5pm because of weather.

Suggest checking out designerglasses.co.uk. I got my Orgreen frame and lenses there for fraction of local price. The big plus is they have a shop in centre of Greenwich so you can try out frames and then ask them to match their internet price.

Looks like Southwark's festive cuts will bite deep!

In North Norfolk you will often find local shops get together to do Christmas lights. Burnham Market and Holt look like something out of a fairy story at Christmas. It pays for itself as so many people go to see the lights and spend money. -
My observation from being part of local badminton group that has used facilities at Harris is the group that took over didn't seem to have the first idea about business. I know our esteemed leader has had great problems when it comes to paying for a long block booking as they have no credit card facility. The place seems to have run far more smoothly under the Fusion contract. The irony is that in terms of price it was very competitive and avoided the need for membership. Not sure they knew how to market themselves though. For now we are having to relocate to Crystal Palace.

What ever happened to Station Manager Barry Jones?

Re Southern, try addressing it to Kai Hills, Head of Franchise and Access Contracts. -
In these situations it is worth talking to the supermarket immediately. Running car park often now done by third party but security is still domain of supermarket. My car was hit by another in a Tesco car park at weekend. Tesco was more than happy to look at their CCTV footage of the car park (sadly car in blind spot so didn't help) to see if recorded. Quicker to do own detective work than wait for police.

Trains departing early seems to happen all too often from ED station. In theory they can close doors early to depart on time, but do have a habit of being a bit too quick off the mark. You could direct emails to Kai Hills at Southern Railways as he is responsible for the way the franchise is run.

Don't have any in SE22 but do have several nests at house in Norfolk. Two years ago the numbers were right down, mainly due to poor summers for 2 years, but last year was probably a record for us with 7 house martin nests and 2 swift nests (who prefer to nest within the roof rather than roof void). I love watching them flying above Marmora Road.
