  1. This could be a blow for East Dulwich nannies given announcement last week by the rail minister that London Bridge problems being fixed immediately so people can get home to relieve the nanny. I expect she was thinking of East Dulwich at the time.
  2. There are some strange folk about. My wife had someone at the door last week doing the selling stuff from suitcase - saying part of prison probation scheme etc. Wife is disabled and had been resting - only opened door as thought parcel expecting. Explained she couldn't stand at door and he went off on one being very aggressive and abusive. Parting comment was to hope she had a f.....g crashed the car when next in it. Not the greatest sales pitch I have ever heard.
  3. In recent weeks there has been a noticeable tail back of traffic coming down Dog Kennel Hill as caughts at red lights just before East Dulwich Station. This is because the feeder bus lane lights have been left on auto and means that they constantly switch between the bus lane and road about every 30-45 secs despite no buses. Previously the bus lane was operated by approaching buses. The result is a large build up of traffic causing congestion back to the top of the hill, as well as preventing flow of traffic out of Edgar Kail Way. Is it possible to ask Southwark Transport section to revert back original bus operated system.

  5. Anyone used service engineer for aluminium bi fold doors that they can recommend? My usual guy in Germany at the moment.
  6. I've used Ed Shaw (ED Electrician) 07793 651 564 for smaller electrical jobs. Nice guy - Part P qualified.
  7. Appeals against PCNs issued by local authorities are much harder than if it was on private land as different rules tend to apply. As mentioned by other posters there normally needs to be clear evidence that you were not at fault, such as lack of signage etc. The only successful appeal I had against a London borough was against a failure to display ticket in wondow. The ticket was there but reverse side showing. Fortunately a unique serial number gets printed on both sides and I could prove that the warden had the ability to check against the serial code to check details. I was also able to argue that the ticket was clearly displayed - as it did not specify which side had to be face up.
  8. You may have a better response if you write to your local MP and ask them to submit a FOI to the DfT on the number of short formed services during peak time and a break down of reasons for each incident. Plus seek confirmation that the train operator is being held to account for its franchise obligations.
  9. Not a fan myself of concrete work tops but I know Martin Rachon at Keypoint Construction has installed them in a number of local houses so worth giving him a call on 07845 416211.
  10. Main website seems to be down. Unless shut for January my guess it has been forced to close. Since Franco Manca opened it has been noticeable how empty the place has been. A shame as in the summer months it is the only place on Lordship Lane with a decent outdoors area.
  11. Could also be weak bladder syndrome if they are flushing the toilet in the night. May be a need to change the ballcock on the toilet syphon.
  12. To be clear re Charing Cross trains. They will not be stopping at London Bridge. I believe trains to Cannon Street will still call at London Bridge. My advice is to use alternate London stations until the problems at London Bridge are resolved. There is a scheme in place that allows you to travel to an alternative connecting station using existing ticket. If using a season ticket you may need to the ticket office and get them to update it with correct codes that allow the ticket to function on connecting routes such as London Underground. Details as follows: Southern and Thameslink passengers with a season ticket bought before 10 November 2014 that expires after 4 January 2015 should go to their local Southern or Thameslink ticket office for their ticket to be reissued. You do not need to do this if you have the Southern Key or a Travelcard valid in zone 1. Further information can be found on Southern and Thameslink?s websites.
  13. We use Suleyman and I really recommend him. Just done a deep clean inside and out on a lot of glass after building works. Always nice to see people put on protective footwear when working inside.
  14. Hadley has deep pockets and the original investment was not very large. I would expect them to have a medium term plan, knowing that they may not succeed in their objective of developing the existing stadium in the short term. Allowing DHFC to go under in the interim could be a PR disaster so I would be surprised if they simply pulled the plug.
  15. I like this quote from Bellenden on their website: "We are acutely aware of the strict regulations around consultation from the Planning Inspectorate and have a successful track record of exceeding these requirements when submissions are made." As James says, they are a serious PR group.
  16. New stats out on station usage. Denmark Hill now 79th most bust station. East Dulwich quite a bit further down the list. Over 2 million trips to/from the station each year though. http://orr.gov.uk/statistics/published-stats/station-usage-estimates
  17. I recently used Kiltox to do some damp proofing in a Victorian semi. Got 3 quotes and they seemed to be the best in terms of knowledge of property and recommended treatment.
  18. You could try contacting Martin Rachon (07845 416211) as he is a partner in a business that supplies new replacement wooden sash windows, and is also a good builder.
  19. Infringing music license does occassionally get taken seriously. Didn't Dulwich Hamlet lose license for this reason?
  20. Can't see anything from plan that suggests ST Francis Road would be proposed route as all the plans seem to still show it as a cul-de-sac. Aside from not being suitable for handling that volume of traffic, the access points at end of cul-de-sac are in private ownership so would be a non starter. Hadley are just testing the water at the moment. Whatever they actually have planned is probably some way off from being revealed.
  21. It is worth being concerned about the existing extension as Southwark will take into account. For us they turned down an original application done under permitted development as they referred to an old map of area (think it was 1946) that showed no form of extended rear to house ever existed.
  22. Sun Paradise definitely in administration. I think some of the directors may be using the name under a new company. We still use former Sun Paradise staff to do servicing on doors but they are not attached to any new company. There are some good German companies who supply bi-fold doors that are of similar quality and price to Sun Paradise.
  23. "It is a shame that the small number of local people try to damage the reputation of a company which focuses on delivering a great service to clients. As a company we have worked extremely hard to establish ourselves. The impact that these opinions can have on the company and it's employees can be detrimental and personally I would prefer to have a private conversation to resolve problems which existing clients have experienced. This will ensure that we continue to improve our services going forward." I guess it depends on what you call a great service to clients. For me far too many mistakes in the entire process, not helped by a lack of understanding at the time of current planning law. We used Design Squared in 2008 (this was the trading name used by Nick at that time - which he retained when creating Limited company in 2009) to do the original design and planning permission, together with subsequent re-designs and planing submissions that were required. Only the project management part was done on a 50/50 basis with Dulwich Design which I was separately forced to terminate in 2009. For me it is not a case of not being prepared to "resolve problems". I haven't seen Nick or heard from him since he came to view the lengthy snagging list in 2009. I was left with no sign-off from the BCO due to a design error and had to sort this myself. I have since had to spend several thousand pounds rectifying mistakes. I am normally very supportive of companies like Design Squared who take the initiative to develop a niche product and offer a comprehensive service. However, when mistakes/errors are made, for me it is important that a company is prepared to admit to this, rectify and move on. This was somthing that I felt was lacking with Design Squared. I am sure there are many people who have had a trouble free experience using Design Squared, hopefully benefitting from the lessons learnt from our project!
  24. Design Squared not an architect when last looked. Architectural. Bad experience when used them.
  25. From memory a few years ago the cost of our 7ft by 5ft shed foundation was about ?300. As a guess I would say foundation is about 20cm so stands proud of ground. We had advantage of having concrete pumped in as doing foundation works on house at same time.
