  1. Miss JB has always been quite a cheery independent soul but over the past few weeks she has become increasingly clingy. She wants to sit on my lap constantly and whines and cries if I leave the room for a second. It's making it impossible to get anything done around the house and the days seem very long. She's even gone off cbeebies! I know it will pass but would be grateful for any tips on how to survive this phase. Is there any point in trying to resist/encourage independence or do I just give in to having a toddler permanently on my lap? She's fine when other children are around or when we're out and about so I'll try to make sure we have lots of play dates and activities to break up the days. Reassurance and advice very welcome.
  2. Thanks pebbles - didn't my expect them to have a website!
  3. How much do they charge?
  4. Seconding what ruffler said - my mum has one in one of her spare bedrooms. She bought the thicker mattress and I think it's fine to sleep on. Mr JB and I slept on it for 4 nights over Christmas. Can't comment on how comfy it is as a sofa though.
  5. We're a family of 3 (2 adults and a 1 1/2 year old) and I'd say that we spend around ?100 - ?120 per week on food. We used to live near the little sainsburys by the Plough and I'd do 3 or 4 small shops a week. I've always found it hard to think more than a couple of days ahead food wise. We've recently moved out of London and are having to get used to not having a supermarket within walking distance - there've been a few emergency takeaways when we've come home to empty cupboards! I think I'm going to have to give meal planning another go.
  6. Babyswimming don't make you buy the nappies from them - you just need to use a happy nappy which you can buy on line through amazon etc. We've done lessons With both Aquatots and babyswimming and I preferred babyswimming - a better balance of fun and swimming. We've only stopped because we've moved away from East Dulwich.

  8. I've recently had a friend go through this. To my surprise she was ready to talk and made contact only a few days after her son's death. I didn't attend the funeral but a number of my university friends did and I know they found the support very touching.
  9. With a second birth your chances of induction succeeding are much higher. I was induced with the propess pessary. Put in on 11am on the thurs. Contractions started at 10pm - just after mr JB had gone home. Didn't get beyond 2cm the following day so they broke my waters at about 11pm. Got to 4cm and stayed there despite being on the drip. Ended up with an emergency section on the Saturday pm. However don't read too much into my story - I was a first time mum and my cervix wasn't at all ripe. My sister was induced for her second and had her daughter within 6 hours of the pessary insertion. Following on from Clarec's post - the emergency section was fine. One of my first thoughts after having it was 'i haven't bought a changing table!' but I was fine - able to bend and run around. good luck
  10. Our 17 month old still has a bottle. We had some success at around 12-13 months in getting her to take milk from a beaker but she then got a bug and we went back to the bottle and since then she has refused the cup - swiping it away. Am trying not to stress about it but i think I've missed the window to make the transition and will probably have to wait until she 's a bit older and can be bribed with a fancy cup or similar! She'll drink water quite happily from anything.
  11. Smiler - your post is so true! Recently went on a hen do. On the first night I lasted til 4.30am. On the second night one of the other mums and I had had enough by 2am and got thoroughly told off by some of our child free friends. Given a late night for me is now 10pm I thought I had done quite well!
  12. Knowing baby brown coffee I think there's going to be lots of walking up and down the aisle- charming the other passengers along the way!!
  13. I think there is a difference between homeopathy and natural products with healing/medicinal effects. Yes honey is being used in hospitals on difficult wounds (maggots too!) but some of the most powerful drugs are also derived from plants - taxol a chemotherapy drug comes from the yew tree, and so I'm very happy to accept that natural products may be helpful to treat some conditions. However I cannot accept homeopathy- the dilutional aspect goes against all scientific sense. In the era of evidence based medicine I find it incredible that the NHS is still funding homeopathy, though I can't see it continuing for too much longer. There used to be an NHS homeopathic hospital in my hometown but this closed a few years ago after the local primary care trust refused to continue to fund treatment there.
  14. If you fancy going further afield there is a soft play area at the Army museum on Royal Hospital Road Chelsea.http://www.nam.ac.uk/kids/kids-zone We took our daughter (16 months) there a few weeks ago and we all had a great time. It's well designed with a separate baby area. You do have to pay by the session #2.50 for 50 mins but that was enough time and it meant that it didn't get overcrowded. What makes it even better is that it's very close to the Kings road and so when they crash out in their pram afterwards - you can nip off and do some shopping or lunching. A perfect day! We went on a sunday when it was easy to park in the residential streets close by, but it wouldn't be difficult to get there from Victoria.
  15. Close to the Mag - good point IMO
  16. Oh many congrats pickle was wondering how you were doing.
  17. Our ford focus didn't have isofix brackets when we bought it, but they were very easy to install. I ordered the parts online for about ?20 and then put them in myself. We have bought both our car seats from halfords and they were very helpful and willing to price match. From memory the range of seats was much bigger at the Old Kent Road branch than at the Brixton one but that may have changed.
  18. This thread has made me realise that I do need to do something about my weight and fitness. Since getting pregnant my diet has been atrocious. I'm still a good stone over my pre pregnancy weight. Miss JB is now nearly 16 months and I'm still finding excuses for having that extra slice of cake, takeaway etc. I think i've nearly exhausted the back to work excuse - 4 1/2 months ago! We're moving soon and that will b the next one. I've been on weight watchers in the past and after the first week found it quite easy to follow. I lost nearly 2 stone. I think it's time to renew my subscription. I may start tomorrow though as we're having curry tonight!!
  19. If so please pm me- another parcel issue!
  20. I like the idea of a notebook. I used one for keeping a record of feed, boob side and nap times. I also kept a list of baby JB's presents as they arrived. I occasionally have a peak and then smile as I realise that my 'never sleeping baby' did in fact sleep and for up to 4 hours at a time!! And for a simple addition to the box - chocolate biscuits!
  21. Nicola - I so wish someone had told me that in the early days. It is so easy to worry about forming bad habits and using props. I remember reading about a woman who used to drive her child around for hours a day as it was the only way she could sleep, and was so terrified that that would be me. Bee - sorry to hear that you are having a tough time. I think 3 -4 weeks was my lowest point. The excitement and adrenaline of having the new baby had worn off and I was totally knackered. My salvation came when Mr Jb started giving her an evening bottle and taking over the shift between 8pm and midnight and so whatever happened I knew that I would get a stretch of 3-4 hours sleep. I could survive on that. Don't forget to keep eating and drinking too - I was very bad at keeping myself fed and watered and then be surprised when I felt so much better after a snack.
  22. That's a shame - when I was on mat leave it was one of my favourite places to go - child friendly without feeling like you were eating in a creche. So have they moved the deli counter from the front area then?
  23. I had an appointment earlier in the week with one of the energy saving advisors - unfortunately he couldn't make it as his car wouldn't start! Made me smile.

    .

I don't know how urgent your medication review is but if it was for a routine issue I wouldn't mind waiting 3 working days to speak to someone - as long as the appointment then happened on schedule. I would be a bit annoyed about being cut off though
