Yes. But then how would zebra crossings work? As I cross the road I can only turn right, as can the person crossing from the other side. So it would make sense to move to the right-hand side of the pavement and to cross zebra crossings on the right-hand side (with appropriate distancing on wider zebras) so people aren?t getting in each other?s way in case they pass in front of each other.

Ok, here?s an easy one. You need to post some packages at the post office on Lordship Lane and want to pick up a few bits at the M&S foodhall. The packages are bulky and would be awkward to take shopping so better to post them first. How do I get to M&S when I leave the post office using the walk on the left system? (No Ubers allowed)

I?ve had a quick scan through those ts and cs and I can?t understand how it works. Is there actually a physical card loaded with credit someone has to take into a store?

Why are non essential shops still open?!

I don?t have the answer to this but it?s quite possible the (brave) delivery person has visited several households to deliver the ordered food/treats so has potentially been exposed to numerous families from all walks of life (germs on gates, doorbells etc). Is that any safer than queuing orderly outside Odonos or William Rose? -

Following on from Lynnes?s point. What would be the difference between 20 people queuing up for ice-cream and 20 people queuing up for meat outside William Rose? Some would argue meat is not essential and does more harm to the planet. There are large queues outside pharmacies. Yes, medicines are essential. However, some of the people with prescriptions would be better off running around the park and getting some exercise and getting fit and they wouldn?t need some of the medication. Are some queues more morally acceptable than others? -

I think lockdown is making you lose your your grip on reality ED_2010 and ED Bird. NewWave?s coffee treat is not responsible for the death of those poor people. The world has got to face up to a very harsh reality - life versus livelihood. This virus isn?t going to go away anytime soon and the world economy is on the edge. Trump is correct. We need to be careful the cure isn?t worse than the disease. -

Strangely America and many European countries are about to start to re-open businesses to restart their economies. We can?t stay locked down indefinitely. Sadly Covid-19 will be with us for years with several waves possibly. Hopefully less virulent each time. -

Careful Jonny. Once you start pronouncing on who can queue up for what reason and which shops can and can?t trade it can be a slippery slope. How did you happen to notice this queue anyway? Do you have a flat overlooking the shop or were you out wandering around or driving past? -

EDguy89 Today, 06:01PM I'm highly disappointed that someone decided to report this shop without making any effort to speak to the owners of the shop to get a better understanding. She might have needed to join the queue as number 21 to do that. -

But have you noticed how many people on here seem to leave their homes only to return miserable or in a bad mood about something they consider unacceptable and then post about it -

I suppose one could argue it cheers people up on a sunny day and so contributes to their mental well-being now that an Englishman?s* home has become his prison. (*to avoid upset read Englishman as person of whatever nationality and gender) I didn?t realise you had two posts on the same matter -

what about those cleaning buses and delivering your online purchases? Many non-British have played a vital role. Discrimination? -

Either you are very bored Spartacus or it genuinely peeves you. There is nothing stopping you researching the unfortunate people?s names and, with permission from their families/relatives, publishing a list on this forum to give them due recognition, with perhaps a brief biography for each person. In fact, you could update your lists hourly I suspect. That should keep you occupied and address the perceived wrong that annoys you.

Okay, I?ve got cabin fever so I?ll bite ?... Each one of their lives was just as important and valuable to their families and friends...? True. But many people will remember Eddie large. Most will have no idea who hundreds of Joe Bloggs from Dunroaming were.

True pk, the timing is unfortunate but not disastrous - the U.K. can always trade on WTO terms if need be. Potentially there could be worldwide financial and economic carnage. There?s talk Italian banks might need as much as a ?700 billion bailout (the biggest in history) which the eurozone couldn?t cope with alone and would need the help of the IMF and US. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/italy-will-need-a-precautionary-bailout-a-financial-firewall-as-coronavirus-pushes-it-to-the-brink-2020-03-10 Ironically such a bailout could actually strengthen the euro in the long term as Italy might be forced to accept fiscal union rather than leave the eurozone. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2020/03/10/coronavirus-may-finally-break-italian-resistance-eu-fiscal-union/

Yes Blah Blah. There?s a sobering article in the Guardian regarding Italy?s precarious position, especially financially and the risk of contagion. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/10/an-italian-financial-crisis-is-certain-the-big-question-is-how-contagious-it-is

?... Are they happy to waiver that principle albeit temporarily?...? I can see how expediency might require a temporary suspension that wouldn?t compromise the principle of Freedom of Movement. The danger for the EU from my mind would be if individual countries put their national and citizens? interests before the greater Interest of the EU. Let?s hope events don?t put unity to the test.
-
Some interesting points raised above chaps and chapettes. BUT... I would question the unity of the EU now. It has become apparent that Barnier is now dealing with pressures of individual nations? self interest as the talks begin and arguments rage as to who pays more, and receives less, to cover the shortfall left by the U.K. Secondly, hopefully Covid-19 doesn?t get out of control but if it does it could rip the EU apart, especially if a financial crash results from the mayhem. Countries are already questioning the wisdom of ?just in time? supply chains and being dependent on low wage manufacturing in the Far East. How would the EU be able to support the economies of 27 nations in a pandemic? Just one simple example would be a collapse of tourism - how many jobs would be at stake if Britons and Germans didn?t fight over sun loungers and we didn?t frequent French restaurants to be insulted? There may be very strong arguments for going it alone as we reboot our economy and address green issues going forward.

Let?s wait and see what transpires shall we. At some time Ireland?s noddy political system might eventually form a government. And if the EU trade talks give us our cake and let us eat it the EU won?t need to impose a border.
