  1. See here Jocelyn: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,76368 Come along they are much fun!
  2. I had to stand this morning! Stand I tell you!
  3. The 8:45am from denmark hill to blackfriars has grown steadily busier over the past 2 years.
  4. In a world beset with tolerance, finally a guilt free prejudice. Apparently the bus company Arriva is gothist. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bradford/7204543.stm
  5. Well isn?t this nice? I?ll brew-up. Tea anyone?
  6. I often wonder when I see people with families who never seem to go to work and live in council accomodation but drive around in cars that we (a 2 person 2 relatively good income family) would never consider affordable. It often has me wrestling with my inner cynic to convince myself that there must be an acceptable explanation.
  7. This talk of chips and gravy is making my mouth water.
  8. Hands ups if you are in an office which you had to commute to and you could just as easily be doing your job from a business centre based in ED. Ok hands down now people are looking.

  10. I was drinking so much towards the end of last year I actually stopped enjoying it. So I haven?t missed it at all to be honest. Although that doesn?t mean I do not intend to enjoy a few pints of Guinness in the not too distant future.
  11. Yes MP child mortality and illnesses contribute highly to brining the average lifespan down. It is an often misused stat. Although when asking why we reach sexual maturity at a certain age Mesolithic man is a mere five minutes ago in evolutionary terms.

You are right it is a selfish, perhaps middle class (his skin crawls) idea but I wouldn?t trade the fun I have had in my twenties for anything. It has been irresponsible, dangerous and sometimes life threatening, expensive, stupid and thoroughly enjoyable. I wouldn?t have done most of it if I had a wife and children relying on me and in the future (when god willing I will) I certainly will not spend money or put myself in danger unnecessarily.
  13. The idea of ?rights? is just that MP, an idea that any given society buys into at a given time as it fits with their world view and what they do to survive. They are not some universal one size fits all set of rules on which to base morality. What is a luxury to one person today may be a right to another person tomorrow or vice versa. Values and therefore rights are as fluid as society and while agreeing to a rigid set of rules can protect people and help society function properly it can just as easily be used to exploit. Not that I am in anyway suggesting that we shouldn?t adopt a set of basic rights as layed out in the universal declaration. I am just saying you can never declare it the be all and end all and forget about it. Sorry this is a philosophical point rather than anything else and doesn?t have much to do with the topic.
  14. There are 2 reasons. The first (whether this is a problem or just a phenomenon depends on your outlook on life) lies with society?s values. In our current value system the wants of the individual are increasingly valued as more important than the individual?s responsibilities towards those around them. So therefore the physiological urge to reproduce is seen as a right of the mother rather than a responsibility upon both parents for the welfare of the child. You have to remember that this only applies to modern western culture and specifically to the social conditions in the UK at the moment. There are many places in the world where it is perfectly normal to be pregnant at 15 and always has been or where traditionally there are different care structures within families. The second is that women of all ages who are unhappy can sometimes feel that having a baby will somehow change their situation. This is a bloody stupid reason for having a child but then all of us had some bloody stupid ideas about life when we were teenagers. It?s what being a teenager is all about.

  17. Those old train doors still give me nightmares. When I was a little boy running around barefoot on a train from Johannesburg to Cape Town the conductor slammed one on my big toe. Ripped the nail clean off.
  18. And from the news desk for the bleeding obvious: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7201874.stm When I read this I though it was a Daily Mash headline.
  19. It is my absolute pleasure. It is so good to know my education, career and tax contributions are doing someone some good. I?ve come over all warm and fuzzy now. It?s a bit like when I bought that African farmer some manure.
  20. Do you think? ;-)

  22. Yeah. Experiments test the nature of well nature. Therefore something that is supernatural is not testable by experiment. Well either that or it is just ?super? such as the ?super savings? one is supposed to make in the January sales that always add up to more than your Christmas shopping. Now I would like that one explained.
  23. Because it never fits properly with a normal 3 or 4 chord rhythm.

  25. I don?t weigh myself (it has never crossed my mind to buy scales) but I have gone down 2 notches on my belt in the last 3 weeks. I think it is mostly from eating sensibly though rather than booze. Although when I?m hungover I eat more so I suppose there is a relationship.
