It's not entitlement FFS. We're paying the council more than £2k a year in tax. It's not too much to expect them to clean the streets and drains of leaves and dog shit for all that money, as well empty one bin once a fortnight. The streets round here are a disgrace. The council are paid to make them not so. If they can't do it they should say so and stop charging money for the non-service.

Leaf fall in January! Lol.

What's Happening on Crawthew Grove Project?

Looks pretty cool -
They only clear them for 6 weeks in Autumn. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking-streets-and-transport/street-care/autumn-leaf-collection Whateley Road's turn was w/c 17 November 2025. You might get another slot in November 2026 if you're lucky. Council tax will go up by the maximum 5% in April regardless. Good luck.

That's annoying not just for the small amount of pennies they are taking incorrectly, but also because if you need a precise amount of something and you are more than 10% short a recipe might not work.

Maybe they need to extend the cancellation period out 48 hours to stop people booking speculatively?

Maybe Olivelli on Lordship Lane fits the bill too? -
Speculating on the motivations for these crimes is helpful.

an inevitable consequence of the irrational, hate-filled war on motorists, I'm afraid.

2025 Christmas Tree recycling
CPR Dave replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
People leave trees on the street because Southwark council tell them too. A load more trees were collected today. It's a small inconvenience for the joyless of East Dulwich to complain about, just like bonfire night. Anyway, you won't need to worry about it any more until December. -
Presumably this was in the boating lake? If so: It's utterly selfish of these dog owners not to have their dogs on a short lead as required by the rules of the park. Five fire engines and a were boat called out because more dog people are too ignorant to look after their animals properly and obey local rules. They should pay the LFB the cost of that attempted rescue and the council should impose their maximum £1,000 fine for not using a short lead.

Happy new year to you too and ride safe! -
I think most people use the Dulwich Leisure Centre or the outdoor gym in Peckham Rye park.

Where's you evidence that more are arriving now than leaving? 1993 followed a very similar situation to 2026. Net emigration, a disastrous economy and an even worse housing market. There's a chance the crash won't be as bad as the worst in history because lending practices now still largely reflect those implemented following 2008, but it will be bad and there wil be a lot of empty defaulted homes.

Things have changed a lot since the 2024 election. But the trends even in that period are very clear. <iframe height="537px" width="100%" src="https://www.ons.gov.uk/visualisations/dvc3411/fig01/index.html"></iframe> This graph shows the trajectory and it's very bad news for housebuilders and the housing market.

Here are the routes for Southwark's gritting lorries: https://geomap.southwark.gov.uk/connect/analyst/mobile/#/main?mapcfg=Southwark winter gritting routes
-
There used to be yellow grit / salt bins dotted about so that the public could spread salt on patches of ice like this themselves. Is there not one nearby on Avon Dale? I feel like the council could quite easily list where all their grit bins are at times like this to help residents help themselves.

2025 Christmas Tree recycling
CPR Dave replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's not really a "problem" FFS. They've all been collected now. -
It's also worth noting there are more people leaving the UK now than arriving. We'll soon have a surplus of housing so no need to build many more. Suspect if this story is anything to go by the mansion tax may not end up being levied here after all. House price crash incoming. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/property/buying-selling/stuck-in-seven-bedroom-house-stagnant-property-market/ Also developers stop building when buyers stop buying.

Homes for people who have been granted asylum is one thing. Homes for asylum seekers is something else.
