  1. What a great story. I love Monkatsu.
  2. Well done Sue and all attendees. There can be a bit if back and forth on here but it's nice to know that you can all meet up in real life and have a good time together.
  3. The people supporting Hamas today are the ones who need to take a look at themselves.
  4. It's a strange kind of genocide when the civilian population actually increases.
  5. If this Tesco drives the final nail in the coffin of the co op, Waitrose might fill that space. I doubt they would do it in the current economic climate though. It’s a terrible time to be opening a business and it’s only going to worse when the November budget hammers the economy even more.
  6. Not less than four months ago. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c98wjzj4jlpo
  7. Excel hosts fairs for various businesses selling all sorts of things week in, week out. For example, next week it is "Salon Interntional". No doubt there will be UK businesses exhibiting there who donate tax receipts to the UK government from sales of shampoo to people who live in Israel. Does that cause you outrage?
  8. They aren't really relevant. This protest is purportedly against our government's involvement arming Israel. Our government doesn't sellweapons and Israel is no longer at war with Hamas. So the protest is pointless. The only reason to attend now is to intimidate / antagonise / express hatred towards Jews.

  10. It's also worth noting that this UK government has absolutley no influence in Israel whatsoever. Our Prime Minister wasn't even on the same continent when the peace deal was signed.
  11. Our government doesn't make or sell any arms at all to anyone.
  12. I understand that a few people genuinely hold those views (but strangely don't march or protest for any other oppressed people suffering war, e.g. those in Yemen, Syria, Ukraine, Sudan, Ethiopia, Myanmar, the Magrheb and Sahel, the DRC etc.). There are very many other people though who exploit those with genuine (but exclusive) concerns about Israel toprovide cover for then to express their hatred of Jews.
  13. Now there is a peace agreement, the only reason this would still go ahead is to demonstrate antisemitism.
  14. I remember when Helen Hayes was our MP she made a big fuss about this in the House of Commons. Now Labour are in government the service is even worse and we hear crickets instead of our representatives standing up for us.
  15. [Sorry that was not in the spirit of the thread.] I'm pleased for East Dulwich and agree it's great. Largely because of the amazing amenities and the genuinely decent community here.
  16. It's not really a bizarre policy if you are swimming in Southwark's other swimming pools free of charge in lieu of the Dulwich pool you are still paying for. If you paid to use other venues they should either reimburse those costs or reimburse an element of the Dulwich membership.
  17. Seems a waste to squander one of the bi-annual leaf collections on a day when all the leaves are still on the trees. In a few weeks time the paths will be strewn with wet rotting slippery leaves, (hiding countless piles of dog shit left behind by the selfish dog owners of East Dulwich) and the Council will do nothing because the scheduled collection has already happened.
  18. I don't think there is any doubt it is going ahead in the form set out in the link that James McAsh provided. Those documents state very clearly the smaller scheme has been approved (by him) and I think references in there to "statutory consultation" are references to the so-called consultation that has already been undertaken. References to "statutory procedures" I take to mean simply drafting and approving the necessary Road Traffic Acts notices for the new parking bays and hundreds of metres of new double yellow lines that will be imposed to punish those who voted against the CPZ.
  19. These bits of the story look much more interesting: Plus: Fake Forrest Gump-themed shrimp restaurant payout — and pub survives licence review after drinkers disrupt a child's music practice
  20. Sure, let's go for "offshore" owners of any kind of business too whilst we're at it. We're an island. We don't need money from offshore criminals. We can all live on benefits and go on strike when when the onshore government wages the job centre pays are too low .

    1. They are not my numbers. 2. You are comparing different surveys to obfuscate. I assume that is deliberate. 3. The only mathematical complaint you might have had is that 53% minus 19% is a +34% approval rather than +35%. I assume that was down to an earlier rounding error that worked in the government's favour.

Well the politics of this, inevitably, has proved entirely unpalatable for the general public. 35% of voters approved of a digital ID scheme in the summer. Since Starmer imposed his forced ID scheme, the net approval rating has plummeted to -14%. Let me spell that out. Minus fourteen per cent of voters want his Brit Card. The Guardian blame this on the Prime Minister and his "reverse Midas touch". https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/oct/01/keir-starmer-labour-collapse-public-support-digital-id-cards

Why? Why not just accept driving licence cards or passports as we do already? Anyway this is good to know. I will get my "Digital ID" in paper form and the government can stay out of my business on my phone.
