I remember when Helen Hayes was our MP she made a big fuss about this in the House of Commons. Now Labour are in government the service is even worse and we hear crickets instead of our representatives standing up for us.

Timeout’s best places to live in London 2025
CPR Dave replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
[Sorry that was not in the spirit of the thread.] I'm pleased for East Dulwich and agree it's great. Largely because of the amazing amenities and the genuinely decent community here. -
It's not really a bizarre policy if you are swimming in Southwark's other swimming pools free of charge in lieu of the Dulwich pool you are still paying for. If you paid to use other venues they should either reimburse those costs or reimburse an element of the Dulwich membership.

Seems a waste to squander one of the bi-annual leaf collections on a day when all the leaves are still on the trees. In a few weeks time the paths will be strewn with wet rotting slippery leaves, (hiding countless piles of dog shit left behind by the selfish dog owners of East Dulwich) and the Council will do nothing because the scheduled collection has already happened.

I don't think there is any doubt it is going ahead in the form set out in the link that James McAsh provided. Those documents state very clearly the smaller scheme has been approved (by him) and I think references in there to "statutory consultation" are references to the so-called consultation that has already been undertaken. References to "statutory procedures" I take to mean simply drafting and approving the necessary Road Traffic Acts notices for the new parking bays and hundreds of metres of new double yellow lines that will be imposed to punish those who voted against the CPZ.

These bits of the story look much more interesting: Plus: Fake Forrest Gump-themed shrimp restaurant payout — and pub survives licence review after drinkers disrupt a child's music practice

Should Rachel Reeves target offshore ownership of residential properties?
CPR Dave replied to vladi's topic in The Lounge
Sure, let's go for "offshore" owners of any kind of business too whilst we're at it. We're an island. We don't need money from offshore criminals. We can all live on benefits and go on strike when when the onshore government wages the job centre pays are too low . -
1. They are not my numbers. 2. You are comparing different surveys to obfuscate. I assume that is deliberate. 3. The only mathematical complaint you might have had is that 53% minus 19% is a +34% approval rather than +35%. I assume that was down to an earlier rounding error that worked in the government's favour.
-
Well the politics of this, inevitably, has proved entirely unpalatable for the general public. 35% of voters approved of a digital ID scheme in the summer. Since Starmer imposed his forced ID scheme, the net approval rating has plummeted to -14%. Let me spell that out. Minus fourteen per cent of voters want his Brit Card. The Guardian blame this on the Prime Minister and his "reverse Midas touch". https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/oct/01/keir-starmer-labour-collapse-public-support-digital-id-cards
-
Why? Why not just accept driving licence cards or passports as we do already? Anyway this is good to know. I will get my "Digital ID" in paper form and the government can stay out of my business on my phone.
-
How does it work without a smart phone Sephiroth?
-
The other extremely inept political approach in the delivery of this policy, out of the blue, was calling it a BritCard and somehow expecting Irish citizens working in Northern Ireland to get on board with the idea.
-
I don't think it's right for the government to force people to buy a smart phone so that they can go to work. I also don't trust the government to put an app on people's phones without being tempted to steal private information by listening through the microphone, looking through your photos, looking through your location data etc. all of which permissions will no doubt be needed to to be given to the app so that it (and therefore you) can work. On the politics, I think the hectoring, condescending delivery of the message was appalling. " This government will make digital ID mandatory for the right to work... Let me spell that out. You will not be able to work in the United Kingdom if you do not have digital ID. It's a simple as that." He seems to have forgotten that he is Prime Minister and not the Reich Chancellor or the Generalisimus. He serves us. He doesn't lecture us like a dictator forcing compliance with intrusive governance for which he has no democratic mandate whatsoever. The right to work in this country is a birth right. No Prime Minister has the power to stop people working for refusing to own a smart phone or to download a Dictator's app.

I've no idea. You seem a lot closer to he issue though and I think if you mentioned it to the businesses concerned that they would very likely want it resolved before it went any further?

If you are aware of rats being present, you might let the restaurants know too.

Are we now under a flight path?
CPR Dave replied to Houseoflego's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Unless we don't cycle I don't think we can be too critical of the authorities. -
The fact everyone has had a CCTV camera in their pockets for the last 15+ years has done a huge amount to prevent and mitigate random drunken violence. Thugs can't get away with what they used to anymore.
-
Do you mean that there are only very few trades people and that all of their thousands of happy customers post glowing reviews but most of them have only ever posted once to recommend said trade person on the trade person's own thread? If so, I agree it's mysterious.
-
I'd try the Dulwich Village or "North Dulwich Triangle" forums for more local knowledge but I don't think those areas compare to Abeville Road at all. It will be quite a different lifestyle.
-
What about the places they go to after 11 as it is? I think a lot of the reticence will stem from the fact that someone turning 18 now will ha e loads of school mates who are still only 17 and the liability for serving underage people is huge, plus the loss of profit selling mostly only soft drinks makes 18th birthdays a hard sell in pubs / clubs.

Have had a prompt reply from Mr McAsh. The documents are available here... https://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/ieDecisionDetails.aspx?ID=8364
-
Thanks, will let you know how I get on.
-
Does anyone have the councillors email addresses please? I will email them this afternoon asking if the new CPZ has been agreed for Melbourne Grove, when that decision was taken and where the consultation documents and other papers can be found. I will then post any replies I get on this thread.

This is a huge part of the problem. Starmer is only interested in himself, not in what is best for our country. There's a litany of stuff he's done for spiteful jealous personal reasons which has damaged the nation enormously. Burnham would be a much better leader than of the other dross left behind when Starmer goes. To inflict a worse leader (and PM) upon us for his own selfish reasons would add to the problems and be entirely in keeping with his woeful premiership so far.

The curbs, that stop cars driving over the pavement, have also been removed on that junction. The whole junction is very badly designed.
