Mr Guppy in today's Telegraph:

"I am not one of those self-hating old Etonians or ex-Bullingdonians and I have only contempt for those who seek to minimise that aspect of their past for political or career reasons.

"I will never renounce them simply because some chippy journalist or politician or blogger has a hang-up because he didn't go to Eton.

"In particular, the idea of having to disown them in return for the approval of people who hate Eton but admire Big Brother is as dishonest as it is demeaning," he says.

whilst i guess his willingness to retouch his bullingdonian past could be considered admirable, that all smack of the worst sort of solipsistic, arrogant (not to mention misguided) elitism you could possibly witness.

Mind you, look at them....is it any wonder?!

I dunno, strikes me as a bit of weird class war stuff criticism of them for this

At their age I was spending a fair bit of my time with a group of lads (none of whom had been to Eton mind), wearing sartorially intersting clobber and not always entirely up to good...A lot of blokes hang around in one sort of gang or another at that age whatever their background

That they have to try and hide it is a bit sad but also says someting about our class war crap a bit too.

Naturally the Bullingdon pic seems to confirm everything I already suspected about Cameron, Osbourne et al.

That said, from personal experience, "The Oxbridge Thing" is often cited somewhat unfairly with regards to having an easy pop at people who have been professionally successful - though I'm thinking more outside of politics here, admittedly.

Anyway, all this is beside the point. Not voting Conservative because of the Bullingdon picture would be like not going to see Nickelback because you don't like the typeface used on the poster.

I'm not sure why anyone cares about this picture. The Bullingdon Club is just a group of blokes from University who got together in bad outits with slightly worse hairdos and got drunk a lot. There are lots of groups like that at lots of Universities, no? Or am I missing something?
Well I suppose that must be it. But really, as far as I could see whilst at University, almost all of the boys, and a large number of the girls come to that, dressed badly, clubbed together in groups, and drank lots. So that would make them very much just like the majority!

    • Which has, unfortunately, closed. Au Ciel is much better than Gail's. Big bakery in the parade of shops near Rocca in Dulwich Village with all the seats outside - you can't miss it. Normally a big queue outside at weekends with walkers and cyclists topping up on carbs and coffee!
    • Hi, just to say there was an attempted car theft at the FH end of Underhill over Friday night. Without wanting to go into all the detail, they were pretty adamant and took a great deal of time to (try) take the car. The police came within minutes, and drove around etc.. The police said the car was in demand at the moment. I don’t know if that was brand or model. notwithstanding what the police said, all car owners should be vigilant and neighbours. These thieves were interrupted twice by neighbours, but the thieves came back etc and the neighbours didn’t put 2+2 together as to what was happening to the car. The thieves were two guys, on the cctv it looked like they were wearing grey, but it may have been black (cctv can look odd at night). My neighbours said they were black. They had a bag with them, no doubt carrying tools and they may have been dropped off by a car, that is being investigated.  Take care!!
