An interesting debate for a sunday evening for all mum's and mum's to be, i hope.

I am wanting to start either pregnancy Yoga or Pilates, and was wanting to hear peoples preferences and experiences to help me make a choice.

I was also hoping to get some advice on good places that offer these classes, ideally on a wednesday morning/afternoon.

I'll look forward to hearing your responses.

Did both and think they're both worth doing as have different benefits. I went here - http://www.dulwichtherapyrooms.co.uk/ Loved the Kundalini Yoga on a Wednesday morning. Had to stop Pilates as they cancelled the Monday morning class but had done regular Pilates for years so had the muscle history to see me through the Pregnancy

I do one-to-one pilates once a week a the Sunflower Centre in Brockley and am continuiing through my pregnancy (although what I do now compared to before is different to take account of the baby!). I find it's the only thing that really keeps me moving - I started it because of having major surgery on my spine 18 months ago and so far (touch wood!) I'm 20 weeks in and haven't had any recurring major problems with my spine.

My instructor does some yoga type movelemts with me too and encourages me to do these at home to increase strength and suppleness (sp?).

Like bumpy said - maybe give both a go!

Have been doing pregnancy yoga at with sitaram. their website is sitaram.org

They have classes at Kings and various other local places. I go on Weds, the teacher is Alice. I really like her. It is very relaxing and good for aches and pains and although not arduous is a bit more like exercise than some pregnancy classes. beware though, I hear the Saturday classes are more of the type where all you do is lie on your back and breath!

I did Kundalini yoga and thought it was great - good preparation for labour!!

I also did pilates, but I think that is probabaly better done one to one, even if that means you just have an occasional session and do it on your own.

I have had mixed experiences of other pregnancy yoga - some of it is far to much lying on your back and breathing deeply for my liking!

I did yoga with Sitaram and it really stood me in good stead for the birth, in particular the controlled breathing and pelvic floor exercises. My husband and I also splashed out on a yoga birth rehearsal and it definately payed off, as we used some of the positions and breathing techniques learnt just a few days later whilst in labour.

That said, I found out the other day that Southwark offers free ante and post natal pilates http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/10096/healthy_living/885/ante_and_post_natal_progressive_exercise/1

Next time with altered priorities for my cash (want to spend it on baby) I would definately try to get to a free class.

    • Hi all, Wondering if anyone else in/around SE22 is also having the unfortunate luck of having Evri parcels delivered by a very rude individual? Whenever we have parcels delivered, our front gate is being slammed open and closed, ring doorbell is harshly banged (not pressed) followed by simultaneously banging on the door knocker and slamming the letter box multiple times. Someone is normally home by the time they come in the evening and never has to wait long for an answer. If we’re not home, we speak to them on the doorbell so we do find the actions of this individual unreasonable and rude.  We have tried a couple of times politely asking that they not do this but they are very dismissive and gives a passive-aggressive “have a nice day” reply.  Has anyone been able to contact Evri and successfully had any issues similar to this resolved? We have enough evidence through our doorbell footage but we are lost with what else we can do. We’ve tried asking politely but don’t want our gate or door damaged by someone who simply doesn’t care and lacks basic manners.    If anyone else is having this issue or has any advice on how we can report this, it would be much appreciated. After another dismissive reply to my concern this afternoon, I will be calling Evri tomorrow to raise a complaint. I have lost my patience with them
    • Corbyn was unelectable - he got trashed by Boris who was a buffoon. It was a good job too because I would have hated to see Corbyn and his rag-tag bunch of far-left university politics backbenchers try to lead the country through Covid.  It is completely understandable why Starmer and the Labour Party want to purge Momentum from within their ranks and Cllr McAsh has fallen victim of that.

    • Hello.   Thanks Nigel and Hparker 😀   I've got new slots available for new students looking for a piano teacher or guitar teacher.   You could start in the new term beginning September, or I'm also available adhoc-styles through the summer holidays at times.   I teach all ages, in most styles, in lots of different ways according to how you learn/like to learn.   Give me a call or text on 07730 402336.   I have connections to lots of performance opportunities/networks too.   I run regular events /student concerts, and play in bands/perform.   Natalie.
