The Daily Mash (a favourite of certain forum members) is based closely on the great American news satire site, The Onion.

As previewed in Saturday's Guardian they have begun doing video news broadcasts so straight you wonder if they really are spoofs.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the senseless unprovoked attack on, and murder of the 16 year old in Hither Green. I just can't believe a human can kill another human in such a manner. I shudder to think what the poor family are going through and hope when the culprit is found, it will be put down in the same way a rabid dog would be, but no doubt some bleeding heart liberal will trot out the usual lame excuses and he will get a nominal sentence, be referred for psychiatric reports and will be among us again (Care in the community) in next to no time. What kind of **king world are we living in.

I have to say, I was reading the Observer last night, and after the interview with the unrepentant father in Basra who killed his own daughter for basically talking to a British soldier, then reading the above story, I got a very heavy heart and decided I had to go to bed.

Deeply depressing stories.

These stories regrettably seem to occur so frequently that I'm afraid they may lose the ability to shock and horrify people who begin to become immune to them. God I hope not otherwise we may as well give up the ghost now and welcome armageddon with open arms.
Jesus, every time I open the morning paper ther's another story about another knife murder victim in London. I'm seriously considering getting out of this country and going back to Cyprus which is where my mum and dad come from. What is it with this country and knife crime.
Oh Moos, this bus crash happened just outside my office, it is so horrid. Unfortunately the poor woman who was killed works in the office just across from us. We heard it this morning and thought the cracking noise was coming from inside so did not fully notice until the arrival of police and press. Very sad although appears not the fault of the driver or anything, the tree fell down to hit the bus.

Out of all the reporting and comment from around the world that I have been reading (with growing despondency) about what is going on in South Africa at the moment, this is the closest to the issues anyone has got yet:

He?s still wrong on some things but he pretty much gets it.

I thought of you when I read that earlier Bren - in a good way that is

Moos/Hannah - terrible story - I walked that route every day for 2 years and feel I know the area quite well. I can't believe people started to attack the driver (according to some reports I read - it may not have happened)

I read someone in another thread mention there hadn't been any real debating threads in a while so maybe this will set the cat amogst the pigeons.

New proposals will make all obscene images of children illegal

Now, I'd rather this wasn't a debate where everyone has to confirm how much they despise peadophiles before they start with their post (this isn't the BBC's Have Your Say after all) but just so we get off on the right foot, peados = scum etc etc

What worries me about this legislation is that you can be prosecuted for possessing or making an entirey fabricated image. It will be an offense to "possess drawings and computer-generated images of under-aged children in sexual activity." Whilst not wishing to condone those who have these images is it not dangerously close to a "thought-crime". No children are harmed by an artist's(and I use the term loosely) pen and yet one can be prosecuted for just such a thing.

If there is no harm - where is the crime? In the perpetrators head. Thus, we have a legal precedent for convicting someone based on their thoughts.

Any thoughts?

    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
    • Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal. Could you please check sheds, garages, or anywhere she might have got stuck please? And if you could keep an eye out or share on any local groups/forums, we’d really appreciate it. Photo attached.   Thanks so much! My name is Jeff on 07956 910068.
    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
