Waffo
For a while my garden has had hundreds of these spiders. When we bought the house you could step in the garden without scaring scores of them away. When we dug everything out and replaced the paving etc they seemed to disappear for a while but now they're back with a vengeance. Any idea how to limit their numbers? I've just counted 20 in my lawn alone! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/105497-spider-infestation/ Share on other sites
DulwichFox
I don't like Spiders... BUT they really are good creatures.. They love to eat the bugs that ruin your garden plants.. When you start looking around you find that some have six eyes. And there are other kinds of spiders with four, two or even no eyes! But most spiders have eight eyes.Dispite this they have terrible eye-sight and only really see shadows and you need to be as close as 1ft away beforethey notice you..It's supposed to be unlucky to kill a spider.. If you do, all his mates will come and get yer.. singalto
If they are in the garden I don't see a problem. Better than having them in the house! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/105497-spider-infestation/#findComment-995128 Share on other sites
Grok
What harm are they doing? Leave them be. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/105497-spider-infestation/#findComment-995209 Share on other sites
Blah Blah
They look like common garden spiders to me and will do no harm whatsoever. I'd just let them live their normal cycle. uncleglen
I've got black spiders everywhere in the lawn in my garden- they run away when I bend down to pull weeds- they are mostly around the edges of the lawn near the flower beds- they are just natural... TheArtfulDogger
Just a thought Why not do a trade with the moth problem people http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1670619,page=1 and offer to relocate a few into their houses to keep their problem under control and reduce the spider count in your garden without killing anyPotentially a win win lol Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/105497-spider-infestation/#findComment-995655 Share on other sites
DulwichFox
Yes.. Spiders eat pests. Spiders feed on common indoor pests, such as roaches, earwigs, mosquitoes, flies and clothes moths. If left alone, spiders will consume most of the insects in your home, providing effective home pest control..Spiders help curtail disease spread. Spiders feast on many household pests that can transmit disease to humans ?mosquitoes, fleas, flies, cockroaches and a host of other disease-carrying critters.Spiders also eat other spiders.. So you will usually end up with a few Dominant spiders. They are good to have around..Foxy Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/105497-spider-infestation/#findComment-995725 Share on other sites

Saffron
Brulysses Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> They're Wolf Spiders, completely harmless and> great bug control as the other posters point out,> please don't eradicate them! And similar to most other spiders, they don't like lots of vibrations, which is why they may have temporarily vacated when the garden was repaved. If you do a bit of stomping and thumping around the garden paving stones when you enter the garden, they'll likely scurry off into the corners out of your way. xx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/105497-spider-infestation/#findComment-995845 Share on other sites
