mxons is a london based family business which has been in the city for nearly 300 years selling fish, so i would not consider them to be a multinational chain destroying the chracter of ED... and as mentioned earlier, FC sopers of nunhead is an absolutely brilliant example of a good quality local business surviving the onset of multinational faceless stores...

Anyone that thinks that an independent business operating in more than one location is a chain store is a MUPPET! Use your brain and some common sense. We all know what a real chain store is and we all know why so many people in ED don't want them. So drop the comments about a store like Moxon's being a chain store for your own sake!

he started it and yes i am lethargic and grumpy, one too many pints of guinness last night im afraid.

This whole chain store / local business thing makes me laugh.

There used to be loads of butchers and grocers in the area, until the yuppies cheered the new Sainsbury's opening on Dog Kennel Hill, and couldn't wait to get up there in the jeeps.... Sure enough, all the little businesses went closed up shop due to no custom......

Years later, things have changed, and a little family business is suddenly trendy again, and people can't wait to queue outside the organic butchers!

Funny how times change, and attitudes change with them.

Ha Ha - how true.

But I think it's a little unfair to say the butcher is popular just because small family businesses are trendy again. I think it just goes to show what happens in a shop (any shop) if you:

a) sell good quality stuff

b) sell it at a reasonable price

c) sell it with a smile

Certainly beats being sullenly handed water-injected battery-farmed chicken, chopped on a slab caked in congealed blood (there are plenty butchers like that in the UK)

    • I don’t think Reform will withstand the heat of any election.  Finding enough people to stand will be bad enough. Finding credible ones quite a bid tougher  I think yes this government is lacking in a long term plan and has not had a good first year. Today the least.   but the speed with which this was dealt with is a notable shift compared to last 14 years where months would drag by and we would constantly be told to draw a line under  if Labour called an election tomorrow, there is not a single party that could present a better alternative with any credibility. And that’s a low bar Reform are dangerous lunatics but more worrying is the descent of the Tories into the same swamp i also worry that England voters have contracted some melodrama virus after the Tories where we had 5 PMs in almost as many years  it’s ok for governments to be unpopular without needing to have an election every 1-2 years       Looks like Lucy Connolly will me one of those Reform candidates at next election tells you everything you need to know about that party and where the country would be headed
