The new Doctor Who was brilliant, got off to a great start and I am looking forward to more.

But what have they done to the original music?? Made by Delia Derbyshire in the BBC radiophonic workshop in 1963. All electronic but no modern synthesisers it was fantastic. Anyone else remember the BBC radiophonic workshop? For years I thought the bass was real. Next vampires and dalec?s, brilliant.

It was quite a weird but enjoyable episode- mind you, I did watch it at abt 2 in the morning.

I did think the new Doctor did go a little bit OTT sometimes. I'll check with my 5yo niece aka the gremlin, to check if he was good or not.

I also agree about the music & the baddies too ( did I see those creepy statues?? )

Lastly, here's the best reason to watch.

A bit of trivia:

The theme music was composed by the late Ron Grainer: "In 1963, Grainer was asked to provide a theme for a new children's BBC's science fiction series entitled "Doctor Who" (1963). Despite some changes in the arrangement, this theme is still being used today - some 43 years later! The very first episode of Doctor Who was broadcast in November, on a day when television was dominated by the news of the shooting of President Kennedy, so tended to pass almost unnoticed, but soon became one of the most popular children's programmes of all time."

Hal,

Yes you are correct the music was composed by Ron Grainer but was done/made by Delia. I love the original any way and would be up for buying it if it's available, I am sure it is. I am old enough to remember the first series and while I didn't hide behind the couch I always had a cushion to cover my face for the scary bits.

Cheers

Chick

I came across a Dalek checking out the times on the Top Gear Lap Times board today and thought it made a reasonably amusing photo op so snapped away. Imagine my surprise when I got home and uploaded the shot to my PC, guess which star in a reasonably priced car it appears to be pointing its cannon at? Coincidence? I don't think so!

I remember watching it with my whole family back in the 60s (from behind the sofa... genuinely) luckily it used to be followed by The Monkees so that kind of took my fear away before bed.

are you mad ? it could go on forever ... don't see any reason for it to stop just as long as there are good stories , good aliens , and plenty of pace and excitement .... long may he re-generate .:))

Liked Matt Smith's performance very much.

    • Rather than zero tolerance, a term I should have not used, I should have referred to crime,  No crime (excluding some things which really should not be criminalised) should be tolerated (albeit the reaction to a naughty 13 year old will be different to a violent criminal, and similarly those with mental health issues there will be some flexibility), I' was talking zero crime, which is impossible. New York was vastly improved, what happened to that wonderful Giuliani chap? US is not a role model of course, homicides per head dwarf the UK; the damage that white flight and the desolation of inner cities that happened to  many places such as Baltimore, Washington DC and Detroit is difficult to turn round Much rather move this debate to the Lounge!
