Ballet - Why do people inflict this on their children?

Its seems everyone sends their girls to ballet. Or a fair few at least.

To me this seems like hard work and a tedious way for a child to spend her time no doubt in search of giving the parents the opportunity to talk of how super little Emily is at her Pli? and Pos?.....

Surely its generally unrewarding. Who ever does anything with it?

all the children I know who have been to ballet have really wanted to go & have pestered untill it was set up..... most drop out in a few months because they don't enjoy it as much as they think they will. Being dressed in a pink tutu is usually what atracts them

Good physical discipline, and an appreciation for arts.

Soon turns into over-awareness of self and one's body leading to a life time of unhealthy non-eating.

And smoking of course.

And that's just by the time they're seven!
