Historic Dulwich shop fronts revealed

I passed White Stuff on the bus on Friday and noticed that where they've started stripping away the shop fronts, it's revealed old signs saying Lordship Jewellers and another one for a tobacconist. It just appealed to the nerd in me!

I walked down Lordship Lane today and thought how little original Victorian commercial or public street furniture remains.

Did I miss anything of note?

I saw the same sight when sipping a beer outside the Bishop this ecvening. Rather like the contact with old ED.

alex, there is a development of some shop units up by the Plough. For a while an old stone cut sign for the Co-op was revealed. They have bricked it over now so alas you have missed it.

The remains of the slot for the penny-in-the-slot model railway are still there to the right of the Mrs Robinson Blackwater Street window.

Mrs Robinson's premises was once a pram/toy shop.

In the 1950s Hornby Dublo and Tri-Ang produced factory-built display model railway layouts for their retailers. Sometimes these were controlled by penny-in-the-slot devices.

This East Dulwich model railway was unusual as it was home-made.

An historic wall sign I noticed on the coach entrance to the Oglander Arms (or whatever it's called these days). I've walked past hundreds of times and it never registered before:

When I first moved to ED 12 years ago that East Dulwich jewellers shop was still around. It closed down shortly after.
