Prdarling i'll PM you

Tor, would be helpful to know how many meters Goodrich went to, how far do you live?.

Gathered myself together a bit now, this is only the first round and as we live on the borders there will be lot of movement. Just really cant face another month or two of uncertainty. Thank god we only have to go throught this once!

Really feel for those of you that didn't get first or second choice, but do try not to panic too much yet as going by previous years a lot does sort during the shake down, especially if you are very close to your school of choice.

Such a horrible thing to go through tho.

Molly

p.s. Also curious re the Nunhead failing school????

From another discussion on here, it seems to be Bessemer Grange that is failing, although it's probably fine but just a bit of a trek, and annoyingly not really reachable by public transport that easily.

Bessemer not in Nunhead, is behind DKH Sainsburys. Also a friends child started there last year and they are really please with it - were worried when allocated but after visiting and meeting the head felt completely different.

Big issue is distance tho - crazy to have a trek/drive to school when you live 2 streets from one that is your first choice.

Underlying all this is the fact that the government merely expects a place to be offered at a school within statutory walking distance (2 miles for Infants) and if there are spaces at schools within that distance then there is no case for additional school places closer to the locality...

ED by the look of it is absolutely full at the seams with primary children who are now being shipped out to schools on the perimeter. Will be interesting to see the stats and if the demand locally was as expected and places have been found at the schools the LA foresaw...

Hmm, not sure which one in Nunhead then. I think there's a panic that anything outside of East/Dulwich is going to be rubbish, but that's clearly not the case as there are some very good primary schools to be found all over the borough.

Molly this is exactly what sends me over the edge. You can't move round here for cars dropping off at Goodrich and now they expcect me to drive miles away to drop my son off and no doubt in several years time, will expect residents around Bessemer to drive to bloody New Cross. It's a shambles.

Am sure parents there are very happy etc etc, but my local school is less than 5 minutes walk away. It's a joke

    • Most churches rent out halls for children's' parties but rarely adult parties, Christ Church only does afternoon parties,   The East Dulwich Community centre hires out halls to 9 pm only and all music needs to be on a sound restrictor as is in a residential area. St Johns with St Clements have a small hall but not sure if they allow adult parties. Nunhead Green has a newish community centre with a couple of different size halls. Most places seem to charge around £40 ph  with a deposit of £100/200 (returned if no damage or excess cleaning needed.
    • Hello, Recently there have been various comments made on the forum which have resulted in heated discussions being had. I for one, hold up my hand and wanted to personally thank whoever is keeping the forum going.. remember when it was likely to close. We are all adults and should known when it is right to continue or just ignore or if really feel it necessary comment via pm. I have had a long relationship with the forum and have bought, sold, offered advice and in deed made friends on the forum over the years. It is a public forum after all and everyone is entitled to express their opinion and is also free. I am not as tech minded as most but with the season of good will approaching and-knowing in this economic climate how many people are  struggling, I  thought it would be a lovely idea, to perhaps set up a just giving page to raise funds for a local charity who might appreciate a contribution towards their Christmas festivities… On a practical side, might just be to complicated to administer as I am sure all have charities that we support so my other thought was not me, as I am useless but to set up a just giving page and whatever monies are raised, perhaps contribute to the festivities that use to be run by local shops or whatever.. Maybe even use a local church hall and just make it special for perhaps folk that find it difficult to access events or no access for say wheel chair users.. guess really, one is looking for guidance from the church and of course volunteers. Shoot me down if you must or feel the need but this is my view and no, sadly I won’t be around in the months before Christmas but can help remotely.
