Hi Balbina!

Sorry I am just catching up with older messages and I have just noticed yours...

We have about 12 people who agreed to come to the Plough tomorrow. I will be at the table with pink&blue baloons!

I am going to get email addresses/phone numbers for whoever would like to be on a Facebook and/or whatsup group.

I am also finding hard to read through this forum (expecially on the mobile) as there are quite few messages now!

See some of you tomorrow!

Hi Ola,

I also think that pilates is a really good exercise for pre and post pregnancy as it will help with your posture as well as strengthen your pelvic floor. (I'm a Pilates instructor and I cannot praise it enough).

As good as it is, though Pilates is not an aerobics exercise. If you are looking for a more "aerobics" kind of thing ,in my first pregnancy I used to go to a class called maternally fit - it is in Clapham North (5 minutes on overground from Denmark Hill). It is an excellent class, run by a physio from st Thomas's specialised in women health. It combines a cardio warm up (on the Swiss ball, which makes it suitable up until the very end) as well as pelvic floor work (loads of it), legs and arms. You will be sweating a fair bit but she is very carefully to have little breaks in between to keep your heart pumping but within certain limits.

Swimming is great exercise too (expecially towards the end). aqua gym could also be a good alternative (as it is low impact on those joints), but I would double check that the instructor is qualified to teach to pregnant women and happy to have you in a general class.

Also 40 minutes of bricks walk is a good daily practice ( I'm going to start doing it myself if you need company we can go together!).if you used to run before getting pregnant and you don't have any medical condition, you can keep running.

Lastly, most gyms have got personal trainers that are qualified for pregnancy- you can book an hour session with one of them and they will make you a program of exercise that is suitable for your growing belly. You need to be very self motivated though to go to the gym on your own-- I know I am not a gym person! ;p

I hope it helps- if you need any more advise just send me a pm! Happy to help!

I hope the meet up yesterday went well - I was very sorry to miss it but was away for my hubby's birthday.

Donatella - if you are setting up a Facebook/what's app group can you let me know and I can send you my details? Would love to be involved!

Thanks, Amy

Hi all, just stumbled across this group! I am due with my first on 13 December (a boy), i'm 33, live in Peckham (Camberwell side) and would love to get to know some locals. Holly, we're also doing the NCT sessions in ED starting 29/10. Look forward to meeting you.

I belong to a December due date group on Facebook (formed through mumsnet) and it's been really good - great to have a whinge about midnight leg cramp and crap maternity clothes, etc with those who truly understand! Very happy to join another if one has been started.

Brooke

It was really nice meeting some of you at the Plough last Saturday- thank you so much for coming!

I have now set up a facebook group- https://www.facebook.com/groups/346664959055265/

If you are interested, could you please add yourself to the group?

It might be slighter easier to follow then this forum :)

Have a lovely week everyone

Hi Everyone,

@donatella thank you for all suggestions; I managed at the end to join jelly bellies on Sunday and did my first class. It was good, I really enjoy Pilates, shame I stopped doing it 2 years ago, it would be so much easier now.

Glad FB group has been created.

I looked into Clapham group you suggested and may join as well, I may give myself couple of weeks to get used to exercises again before I join.

In the meantime, planning to check this Aqua class in local gym. It's only 4.50 if you are not a member, so if any of you would like to join me, please feel free to drop me a message.

Best wishes,

Ola

Im up for the next one!

Debs yes I remember you! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I'll look for the FB page and will see you there!

Hi all,

Just catching up on this thread - sorry I'm a bit of a late-comer, but keen to meet other mums-to-be in the area.

I'm Susan - 37 and expecting my first baby on 14th February. Am with King's and Ivy Green midwives. I've put my name on a list for ante-natal classes held at Dulwich Hospital.

Keen to join any meet ups if there are any arranged.

Susan :-)

Hello!

I'm Briony and expecting number 2 7th January 2017.....just about to go back to work after number 1 (yes they are close :-) 15.5months!!). Would love to meet up with other people expecting around the same time so this little one doesn't lose out on baby friends and for people to hang out with during the next mat leave.

I live in East Dulwich with my husband and little girl.

Look forward to meeting you!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello everyone,

I'm due end of February 2017 with my first. I live on my own in Peckham Rye and am also doing NCT course in Barry Road church in Jan/Feb.

It's taken a while to get to where I am so I am "slightly" older !!

I'd love to meet up with some local Mums to be... The Plough is a great venue, not sure I can make the 24th September, but can do after that and am free Thursdays and Fridays too!

Also keen on antenatal aqua if anyone knows of any classes. Did yoga this morning at Goose Green which was lovely. x

PS... apod what aqua ?4.50 class are you going to? PPS Also love the snug at The Clockhouse PPPS Can't find the Facebook group, what should I search for? PPPPS Maybe we can have another date for those who can't make the 24th ? Mandy x

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to find this group! I've only just moved to the area and just before we moved I found out that I was pregnant (it was a lovely surprise), so its been a bit of a crazy summer. My friends all live in north east London, so it would be great to meet some people going through a similar thing. I'm due on the 14 February. I'm thinking of signing up to the Group for antenatal classes, is anyone else thinking of going with them?

Looking forward to meeting you soon.xx

I'm due a few days after you and am doing NCT locally-- I think its on Barry Road.

Also, if you are looking to meet people, ante natal pilates and yoga classes are another option. In my pilates class at ESPH, there are two other mums to be due in February.

Welcome to the area

Sazzle86 - I'm also due on 14th February :-) I've signed up for NCT antenatal course which runs in January (think it's the one mentioned above). Would be great to see you there!

I've also put my name down for NHS-run antenatal course at Dulwich Hospital through midwife at King's College, but not sure what the dates are yet.

    • I don’t think Reform will withstand the heat of any election.  Finding enough people to stand will be bad enough. Finding credible ones quite a bid tougher  I think yes this government is lacking in a long term plan and has not had a good first year. Today the least.   but the speed with which this was dealt with is a notable shift compared to last 14 years where months would drag by and we would constantly be told to draw a line under  if Labour called an election tomorrow, there is not a single party that could present a better alternative with any credibility. And that’s a low bar Reform are dangerous lunatics but more worrying is the descent of the Tories into the same swamp i also worry that England voters have contracted some melodrama virus after the Tories where we had 5 PMs in almost as many years  it’s ok for governments to be unpopular without needing to have an election every 1-2 years
    • Well, I made £50 out of it and Alice owes me another bullseye, so I had a good day Clearly the thread has moved on, but just a final few words on Rayner (from me, at least). If she hadn't gone like this (with a chance to revive her career at some point in the future) there's plenty of other stuff loaded up and ready to be fired at her about the motivation, finances and machinations of her move down South. It's not pretty reading. Tawdry doesn't come close. I was born in Ashton Hospital and grew up in Tameside, I've got a lot of friends and family who weren't as lucky as me and didn't make it out, some close to her constituency party, and there's been a lot of bad feeling around 'Our Ange' for a long time. My favourite quote was: 'She should fuck off back to Stockport.' And that was from a party member. The writing was on the wall for her. Moving from Ashton (majority c6.5k, large Pakistani minority, but predominantly white working class and targeted by both the Independent Alliance and Reform) to Hove (majority c20k, neither of these issues with the electorate) was a pretty cynical move, and she's fucked it royally. 'The Honourable Member for Hove and Portslade' will be sleeping a lot easier in their bed tonight. This thread was never supposed to about Labour bashing, and I'm not sure it is. It's definitely descended into 'Whataboutery', and that seems to be the problem, in my mind at least, with British politics. It's playground stuff, he said/she said, blame-game bollocks. Watch PMQs and ask yourself if you'd accept this sort of behaviour amongst toddlers, let alone in an elected parliament. One thing that does stand out is the opposition to Reform across the board, and yet we seem to be sleepwalking towards a likely scenario where Farage could head up a minority Reform government. I've 'followed' politics since the late Seventies - mainly because the BBC News came on right after 'Roobard and Custard' or 'The Magic Roundabout' - and I can't remember an era where both major parties are so bereft of leadership, direction or ideas. There's a certain irony that we'll all be getting a test text on Sunday to warn us of an impending 'National Emergency'. Seems quite prescient.
    • But not old enough to remember the highest unemployment rate, inflation and interest rates in history in the early eighties under the Tories? A rather selective memory you have. There has never been a four-day week: it was a three-day week imposed by the Conservative government under the Blasted Heath.
    • I see that there was a government consultation started in July 2024, a response, and then a revision to the National Planning Policy Framework, and then to the Green Belt guidance in February 2025, https://www.gov.uk/guidance/green-belt .  It includes the updates but doesn't give the nescient much clue of what was materially changed. There will probably be some good, and less good, summaries to be found.
