yup - i genuinely can't think of anyone better to lead Brexit talks (which are going to happen so drop wishful thinking) in any party - plus see the other thread she's already siad she'll drop Osbourne's Balanced Budget Law and not scrap ECHRC. When I look at Corbyns disgusting comparison of ISIS with Israel at the launch of Labour's Anti-semitism report this morning I know what I am hoping for.

Crabb won't get it, he knows it. I reckon he's doing it to get the experience of running, set himself up for further down the line.

I agree, if we have to have Brexit, May is probably the best bet at this stage.

Though very important for the next few years, there will be a UK beyond Brexit. Teresa May fills the bill for the current negotiation and also has the experience, skills & good temperament for the post Brexit development. Seems a sorry chance of a Labour government in 2020 so we need common sense & a cool head for the next 9 years or so.

My worry with May is that I suspect she is/was a secret Brexiter - almost as much as I suspect Boris was really a Remainer.

But, she does seem the best of the runners. "Anyone but Boris" I hope becomes "Anyone but Gove".

She's been a senior member of Cameron's government since 2010 and I'd have thought even he would have realised if she had Brexiteer leanings. She may have been Cameron's fall-back in the event he lost the referendum. It's like watching a huge game of chess unfurl. Never been one for conspiracy theories before but we know very little about all the hidden wheeling and dealing within Parliament.

The various views on reaching out to various groups, Palastinians, Irish Republicans etc are a more complex set of views that I would never pronounce on. I have direct experience of the Irish situation over a long time [am of Irish origin] and know enough not to judge either one way or the other.

What I can judge is performance of various politicians in regard to their record in regard to how they push various policies that affect everyday health, wealth & welfare of all the UK population.

Gove is an unmitigated bigot and monetarist of the highest order that will devastate the lives of millions if he gets the job. He screwed up education, wants to privatize the NHS etc. The only upside is that he probably wouldn't survive an election in 2020.

May is right wing but has shown some flashes of compassion & understanding for the dispossessed.

Crabb has views that are too entrenched in his religious ideology & he only proclaims inclusion now in order to be more electable.

Fox makes Ghengis Khan look decidedly benevolant so he will attract the few votes he always gets & then it out for him.

Andrea Leadsom has some dodgy dealings with offshore companies & contributions so that will count against her. She is competent but has little experience but also has a head start as a Brexiteer.

Theresa May wasn't the leader of the party though. Corbyn had more responsibility.

I am happy to admit I was wrong about Corbyn and following the referendum I desperately want him to stand down, but I am not sure I get the vitriol about what he said his morning. Only watched it once but whilst it probably was not the best judged comment in the world I think it has been completely taken out of context.

What worries me more at the moment is the amount of horseshit spouted by Momentum. I have had a run in with this lot and they posted a lot of vile about me (in my professional capacity) about how I was responsible for the deaths of certain individuals. With Corbyn allying himself to these twats I cannot see him with any credibility any more.

IDS was on the Andrew Marr show in Sunday. On the Brexit campaign and the ?350 million a week NHS pledge, he said: ?We never made any commitments. We just made a series of promises that were possibilities."

Gove better not get through, and what Boris has done is truly terrible - absolutely no strength or conviction - but I'm pleased we don't have to worry about him making PM.

I'm hoping it will be May and Osborne leading us through this time of change, and I hope people will remember in years to come, that whatever happens, May has been dealt a bad hand of cards, but she had the strength to try (assuming she gets in).

Question: David Cameron said they hoped to have new PM in October, but has that "moved" to September now, or will the new PM only be effective from October if elected in September?

The reason I ask, I was concerned about this Boris thing and went on to the Conservative website regarding membership. It says you only have voting rights after three months of membership. I'm wondering has that something to do with the choice around dates for the new PM election?
