Book recommendation for 5 yr old and 3 yr old

Can anyone recommend books for a 5 year old and 3 year old (gifts for friends)? Preferably something slightly obscure to reduce the likelihood that they'll already have them. But not so obscure that I can't find them on Amazon. Not asking much am I!?

Thanks! The 5-year old is quite a girly girl, but I think I'll get her Naughty Bus and Traction Man anyway and hope she can find her inner tomboy. I am just checking with the girls' Dad to see if they already have the Mog books.

My 3 yo loves the Oliver Jeffers series of books (Lost and Found, Way back home, How to Catch a star), especially as they are all about a 'little boy'.

They are also nice to read too, and not too long after a hard day (for me, not him!

beegu by alexis deacon is also good and less boyish mog books are lovely too especially mog and the baby

Monkey monkey monkey is one we were given recently that I hadn't come across before and is lovely. More for a 3 yr old, but my 5 yr old likes it too. We all like the Berlie Doherty/Jane Ray books - How to Catch a Mermaid, Jinnie Ghost, Moonbird and Bob Robber and Dancing Jane, tho they are quite different - perhaps not to everyone's taste though I think the most beautiful children's books we have.

There's a fun book called Pirate Girl which might be good for the 5 year old. The Mog books are always a winner. My daughter particularly loves "Mog's Bad Thing".

For the 3 year old what about Aliens Love Underpants? Pretty popular though, so they may already have it. Also the Richard Scarry's "What do people do all day" is fantastic - both for 3 and 5 year olds.

Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson is a brilliant book. My 2 year old has requested it almost every night for the last month! We know it off by heart and she still gets really excited when I read it to her. Well worth a read.

"Pants" with the CD special edition (Lenny Henry doing disco, reggae and other crazy versions) is a masterpiece!

Don't let the pigeon stay up late and others by Mo Willems are great and as from the US might be less likely to have them already
