Folowing on from the "Why do people think they can say anything when you are pregnant' thread, I was discussing pregnancy and old wives tales with a friend recently, and all the nonsense people tell you as to whether they think you are having a girl or a boy. From my own experience, I carried my son low and out front, and did not have morning sickness - both classic 'having a boy' old wives tales.

Here is a link to some classic old wives tales: link

What have others experiences been? Did any of this ring true, or were all your experiences the opposite of the old wives tales? Additionally, any ladies with one of each - were your pregnancies the same or different, and likewise those with two of the same?

I was sick as a parrot, and carried a high, round bump. Everyone from the Eastern European Sainsbury's car cleaning guy to the guy in Starbucks to the cleaner at work to every bugger I saw on the street and had an opinion he couldn't keep to himself said 'Ooh, you're having a boy!'.

The slight anti-climax to this story is that I did have a boy..

Old wives tales are a real bug-bear of mine!

I have 2 boys and a girl and a mystery one on the way, I have carried exacly the same way each time, had identical pregnancies, not a day of morning sickness and lots of indigestion each time.

EVERYONE has an opinion though, I tend to zone out when they start with the 'Ooh - it's a boy/girl' 'Ooh it'll have lots of hair' 'Ooh it'll be big/small' etc...

when I was 6 months pregnant with baby1, I was on holiday in Cape Town and met the head of the local maternity hospital at a party. He was convinced I was having a girl (bump reading). He said he has seen hundreds of bumps in his life and he has never been wrong. I did believe him because he was the head of maternity hospital...

and I had a boy!

I am now pregnant again and I am carrying exacly the same way this time, have so far had identical pregnancies, not a day of morning sickness and a lot of back pain.

and we know it is a girl :)

I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
