mockney piers
Probably a fair result, especially as Green should have walked off the park in a Shaka style (thank god he didn't or it would have been 12-0) but I thought we were going to hang in there for the draw.Bums!Strangely entertaining game even if the quality on show was somewhat lacking.Tend to agree with quids that arsenal won't be winning no Premiership this year. ratty
I feel I need to quantify my comments above. Firstly, the feeling in Portsmouth, where I was when I typed that, is good riddance. Most Pompey fans have not forgiven him for going to Southampton and have been waiting a long time for him to leave the club, so they are overjoyed. I have mixed feelings. Firstly I find him an awful self publicist who sings his own praises all the time. Secondly, his judgement on tactics and players is very suspect, he has his favourites and woe betide any player that does not fit in (Gary O'Neil on loan to cardiff for 3 years?). Thirdly, he insists on employing Kevin Bond at every available opportunity.Congrats at getting three points at home to Bolton Harry - let's hope you can emulate that terrific feet against Arsenal and Liverpool.Oh, and don't turn up for the Freedom of Portsmouth Ceremony on Tuesday! :D :D :D Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1210-football-focus/page/162/#findComment-142774 Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
I sort of know where you are coming from with lots of that ratty but surely it's unlikely Portsmouth would be in the position they are in with any other manager in recent years? He might well be self-serving and two-faced but he has achieved for you Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1210-football-focus/page/162/#findComment-142775 Share on other sites
ratty
I would argue that any manager given the financial backing Bagpuss did would have achieved similar. Perhaps even more as they would probably have not wasted ?7m on David Nugent! ;)I have just heard that Pompey need a buyer by Friday to avoid administration. Comes from someone who last Weds told me that Harry was talking to Levy so could be some truth in it. mockney piers
I was the one near the front of the side bar with my head in my hands.Shambolic last 10 minutes undid a pretty gutsy performance.I see 'arry says of Spurs "You look through and there are international players. You look at the quality and they shouldn't be where they are"I'm sure he said the same about the West Ham team that was too good to go down, and the Southampton team that was too good to go....you get the picture. ruffers
He said this in January when he was linked with Newcastle though.."I have a job to do to take this club forward, and to walk away would not have been the right thing to do," said Redknapp. "I'm happy here, people treat me well and I felt a loyalty to the club and the fans." Jah Lush
Sour grapes ratty? I'm very glad Spurs have got rid of the foreign management style. It doesn't work over here. Ramos was an unmitigated distaster. He might have won us the Carling Cup but we could have done that with Martin Jol. The fact is we've barely won a game in the Premiership since. I'm very pleased we've got in Harry Redknapp. I feel safe that we will not be relegated now. Harry will wheel and deal in the January sales and first off we'll have Jermain Defoe back thanks but you can keep Kevin Bond, although sadly it looks like he's on his way to us already.Arsenal and Liverpool next. Easy. Come on you Spurs!!! Great result for the Pool at the weekend. That was an amazing home record Chelsea had but it had to go sometime. Jah Lush
Forgot to mention I was at the game yesterday. I couldn't believe the abuse that Gary Megson was getting from the Bolton fans. Keef
Maybe next in the prem, but Alan Pardew hasn't got long left at Charlton by all accounts, and apparently He's really unpopular within the club. ratty
Jermain Deofe would have a job moving in January. Player cannot resign for the same club he left within 12 months. As Defoe signed for Pompey last minute on Jan 31st (as a loan of course) then any move for him by Spurs would be nearly as comical as selling all their best strikers in the first place. :)-DNot sour grapes though - just had enough of redknapp and his self publicising clap trap. Most Pompey I know (and I know a fooking lot) are over the moon he is gone because of his Southampton debacle (although they mysteriously forgive Peter Crouch :)) ) I am just gutted that it looks like Tony Adams in charge for us (nice bloke but sadly clinically insane!)As for keeping Kevin Bond - well the scummer is not with us anymore - last seen being hung out to dry for taking bungs ("everyone knows my boss likes a back hander") and being bounced out at Newcastle. When he was coach at Pompey he was actually only ever given the responsibility of getting the flags out! :))In all honestly though I do worry that he will try and take David James, Sylvan Didtin, Diarra or Niko in the TW (although if reports are that he has ?20m to spend then Diarra and Niko are out of reach), but if he does then c'est la vie.I will continue to think of Spurs in the same way as I awlays have done - Southampton's equivalent in London, and Redknapp going there will only confirm the point. >:D<So, good luck with the worlds biggest West Ham, Arsenal, Scumhampton, Pompey, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Tottenham fan in charge. Here's some reading material for you Spuds before your next game :D :D :D (Hope I have put enough smilies in this post to indicate tongue in cheekery)http://www.amazon.co.uk/Broken-Dreams-Souring-British-Football/dp/074322079X Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1210-football-focus/page/162/#findComment-142878 Share on other sites
Jah Lush
Broken Dreams ratty? Good choice. Being a lifelong Tottenham supporter I've had plenty of them. Now, a new goalkeeper would be a good start as Gomez is bloody useless and doesn't inspire confidence in what is already a shaky defence. He's worse than Calamity James on a bad day, so you can keep him. ratty
Bit more from saggychops.......I Love This Club"I'm happy - this is a club I feel comfortable at. I have a fantastic relationship with the fans, a fantastic relationship with the owner and with Peter (Storrie, chief executive). The players I've brought to the club, I've sold Portsmouth to them and to walk away having brought them here, when the club is doing so well, wouldn't be right" - Harry Redknapp, January 7."I had no intention of leaving here. The job now is to take this club forward" - Harry Redknapp, January 12."I'm happy here, people treat me well and I felt a loyalty to the club and the fans" - Harry Redknapp, January 12."It would be difficult to sleep at night. You have to look at yourself and say 'the club's been good to me and I've got to pay them back'" - Harry Redknapp, January 12."It was a difficult decision not to go to Newcastle, but I was thinking about the players who I had encouraged to come here, who I had told what we could achieve and I thought to myself, 'I can't have done that and then just walk away myself'. Newcastle is a fantastic club but I made the decision and I am happy with it. If I was 40, I might have gone, but I didn't want to be away from my wife and grandchildren. I also have a great team here" - Harry Redknapp, March 10."We are not a great club in terms of stadium, training facilities and number of fans we can get in but this is where I'm happy" - Harry Redknapp, April 11."I love it here at Portsmouth. I enjoy coming in here to training every day. I'll stay be here until I'm not wanted" - Harry Redknapp, May 16."I've said this will be my last job in football" - Harry Redknapp, August 18.Big Fan"I was a big Arsenal fan as a kid" - Harry Redknapp in The Daily Telegraph, February 17."I followed Tottenham, I trained there as an 11-year-old, 12-year-old so I know the history of the club. It is a big, big, club" - Harry Redknapp on The BBC Website, October 26.My Kind Of People"It's a disgrace. People chant filth, it's nothing to do with football. Some of the stuff that goes on is completely out of order" - Harry Redknapp on Spurs fans, October 3."What are you supposed to do? Sit back and say nothing? We are talking about racist abuse and everything else thrown in. How do Spurs people feel when they get abuse? They have had lots of abuse over the years and have a big Jewish element among their supporters. Someone has got to make a stand and if Sol wants to we are right behind him. What kind of a nutter must you be to do this kind of thing?" - Harry Redknapp on Spurs fans, October 3.
