The only glimmer I can see is that Israel will want to beat Russia and will give them a game. However, even then we'd need to beat Croatia.

I think I'd rather just start building properly for the next wold cup than go to another tournament, scrape through the groups and go out in the quarters.

Now, Now Jah, we are doing what any other fan would do in our position, and please don't say you wouldn't, because I know you would be fibbing!! >:D<

I dunno about you but unless your team has been through some bad times, and we certainly had some in the early and mid 80's with rubbish players, you can't really savour success when it comes. Also it makes, well in my case anyway, for a greater love for your club, don't you think?

>>SimonM - hope you are not too upset after your defeat last night.............<<

How kind of you not to gloat (well not too much anyway!)

Actually not that upset, because we lost to a fantastically talented team. Eduardo's first goal was astonishing; his second goal illustrated why United have shipped so many this season. To be only 1-0 nil down at halftime was something of a triumph/travesty. I think your "toddlers" would defeat 80% of the current premier teams and we'd probably have had a better chance against the "real" Arsenal first squad, ironically enough.

It would be a major, and deserved, achievement I think if Wenger now wins his first Carling Cup with a side totally different to the one that currently looks best equipped to win the Premiership..

Sean (and Anna for that matter), watching footy at home is sh!t. I have sat there before watching matches, and you have no one to argue with about decisions, or to slag off the ref with, or to hug when your team score in the last minute (and surely every Arsenal fan needs that).

If you can't be at the game, football should be watched in the boozer! In fact, in a lot of ways I'd rather watch it at the boozer than see it live.

You know it Jah, what's the point of following a team if you are about as passionate as a wooden rocking horse??

    • I'm interested to know why you say that? They both sell the same kind of thing, they both have own brand products, and unless I've got it completely wrong, they both seem to be trying to attract the same kind of customer? I would have thought a Waitrose and an M&S so close to each other would have split the customer base (?not sure of the correct term) for both of them? People might shop in both, but I'd have thought each store would still lose out on sales?
    • I thought of going to the States for the World Cup.  But I just can't - Trump, the nonsense of entering the States and what UEFA has done to the sport including enlarging the competition and selling out to Gulf/Middle East States has put me off. I found an article on the likely move of some European football overseas which prompted me to start the thread https://thefsa.org.uk/news/uefa-gives-go-ahead-for-overseas-competitive-fixtures/
    • Unfortunately we can see from the history of the Israel -Palestine situation that a peace accord now won't necessarily lead to long-term peace and statehood for the Palestinians. This has been going on for decades, ever since the Palestine authority gave refugee status to Jews fleeing the Nazis in the 1930s and 1940s. Britain has a shameful role in handing the problem on to the League of Nations and since then the world has watched on and done nothing or very little.
