It is scary that Man U and Arsenal both have very young players in their squads! I genuinely think Chelsea's time at the top won't last long, and they'll be dropping down the table in the next few years...

Liverpool are the eternal 3rd/4th team, and I just hope that soon we can get the extra couple of players to take us that little extra step! We're not far off, and have had great spells this season, but the usual old inconsistancy always haunts us.

With regards champs league, I don't know what to say about Tuesday, I don't really think any team has an advantage as I fully expect Arsenal to score... It's just whether we can keep them to scoring one and put a couple away ourselves...

Arsenal 2 v Liverpool 0

Aston Villa 2 v Bolton 1

Blackburn 3 v Tottenham 2

Fulham 2 v Sunderland 2

Man City 1 v Chelsea 2

Newcastle 2 v Reading 0

Wigan 0 v Birmingham 2

Everton 2 v Derby 0

Middlesbrough 1 v Man Utd 2

FA Cup:

Barnsley 2 Cardiff 1

Portsmouth 2 West Brom 1

My daughter went to the youth FA cup final last night. Chelsea had two goals disallowed so the 1-1 score doesn't really show the whole picture. I think they have a fine youth line-up in the wings.

Yeah, we're not doing well at hanging on to players, I fear for Newton. Every time we get someone good, someone like Fergie 'expresses an interest' which can have a horribly unsettling effect on someone, as we saw in the Reo-Coker episode.

Pity, the boy's got talent, but I don't want anyone in the side who doesn't want to be there.

Newton's more mature, but it feels like only a matter of time before someone will make an offer the board won't refuse.

Our biscuit magnate didn't hang around long either.

...and because I can't help my pedantry, I think Lampard was in the senior squad too.

Whatever happened to the likes of Newton (Adam) and Iriekpen, who looked pretty good in that side too.

    • Totally agree regarding not supporting chains. Gail’s was fine but last time I went in Feb this year, actually walked out Fayetteville looking at menu and waiting 15 minutes to even get glass of water and not busy at all. Staff gone down hill - sooner it goes the better… Always prefer to support non chains - so many lovely places with good food to choose from with pleasant staff who know about customer service and sadly, non English which says a lot for our culture, pubs are also becoming abit of a hit and miss affair but maybe just unlucky. At the end of the day all about the chef. Still abit unclear where new place is located - is it down the road from Goose Green where parade of shops are before Peckham Rye?
    • Surely only where the local businesses offer clear advantages, otherwise you are rewarding what should be failure. I want to be served by a better bakery than Gail's, not a worse but local independent one. Certainly give a local independent some time to get the offer right, but don't buy goods which are worse and or more expensive just because the outlet isn't a chain.
    • Let’s just boycott all chains in favour of local businesses.  Places like Gail’s popping up everywhere has a very damaging impact on small businesses. It’s just the same as the new empanadas place but on a bigger scale. I’ll say it a million times more, we hold the power with our choices. Let’s use our power to look after ourselves and our environment (which includes small local family businesses). And yes, I also love Chacarero.
