Can't recall where I picked it up, been using it a long time - childhood reading of P.G.Wodehouse, possibly. You have to remember that former English teacher > current professional writer = florid gobshite.

Ha! And, of course, that you pack picnics in a proper wicker basket.

And own at least one cookery book by Delia or Mary, plus possess minimum one hand-knitted item of clothing, bonus point if you made it yourself.

Sudden urge to write the equivalent of the citizenship handbook for aspiring villagers, but I'll have a cup of tea (Fortnum's afternoon one) till it passes.

    • At least there were still two adult geese  with them. Hopefully they reached somewhere green and safe. Well done to the people who stopped the traffic for them to cross!  I recently read a very sad story of a similar goose family where one of the parents had been run over by a car, and the other goose and the goslings were standing at the side of the road wailing 😭
    • Walking in the park today I was struck by how much bigger the footprint of the event looks and how that will impact the park. I guess it is only when you see it all being cordoned off that you realise. It feels like all the playing fields will be impacted to some extent. There is another area  being cordoned off at the other end of the park, close to Harris Girls. Does anyone know if this is temporary and to do with the event delivery juggernauts (so green, so environmentally friendly) or something unrelated?
    • Thank you, I’ve sent you a pm.
    • I'm looking for a small piece ( say 12" x 12") of 22mm plasterboard so I can patch a coule of holes in the ceiling where we had down lights. Plaster board is one of the most common items that go on skips so hoping I can get a positive outcome fairly soon.
