South End I would say either The Wood House (but that is KINDA out of the way for both parties)

The Plough maybe? After that you are looking at Forest Hill. I quite like the Hob but tat is undergoing changes so can't say what the bar itself is like at the mo

If you can make it to Forest Hill Rd easily then 2 buses from Crystal Palace serve the FHT, and The Herne

Hi Jeremy

Ron and Emma got fed up of being turfed out of the EDT and Mag with the comedy club so bought the Hob some while back with plans to convert the room upstairs to a proper theatre - posting on their website details below. I think the bar will be unaffected and they plan music sessions there as well

It's close enough to me for me to consider it still part of LL anyway - :)-D

Hi folks. The comedy club has closed for the summer to allow the long awaited refurbishment to take place. We are hoping to reopen for the first weekend in October depending on the level of horror the builders uncover. It is, however, going to be seriously worth the wait with a gorgeous new bar, gleaming and plentiful new toilets upstairs and down, more seating, more tables, much more legroom and a ceiling that won't look as if it's about to fall down ....again! In the meantime we are planning a lot of live music and events, which you can keep track of below while the bar downstairs patiently waits it's turn to be prettified.. and prettified it will be! Have a look at the NEWS page of the website during the next few monthe to follow the progress and let us know what you think. We've already confirmed some great acts like Stewart Lee, Simon Munnery, Simon Bligh, Howard Read and Nick Wilty to name a few for October so come back and see us!

I'm really looking for a pub equally accessible by bus from SE5 8SG and SE19 2LH that requires the minimum combined bus travel.

There's the gauntlet. Anyone?

We will enjoy it, we have both given up smoking and I do all my gambling on Betfair these days. That's progress.

It depends on how many bars you want to visit and how much walking you want to do of course. To get a good cross section of the different kind of places in ED I would suggest EDT or the Bishop (you don?t need to do both) - Black Cherry ? Possibly the Palmeston - The Drum ? CPT ? Plough. Then you can make your way back down lordship lane to the station and take in all the ones you missed out on the way up.

having a few friends in crystal palace, your mate should be warned that the trains finish very early and buses are a reet pain.

37 to herne hill and the thingy (5?) up to crystal palace being a good bet. (or get drunk, consequently lazy and get a cab, not a penny over 8 quid!!!)

    • That said, organised displays could be on Saturday before and after and the actual day, and private ones could just not have the loud ones.  It’s all down to accessibility and people caring/not caring
    • The problem this year is that 5th November falls on a Wednesday. So some places will be bringing their "bonfire night" forward to Saturday 1st and some will be knocking it back to Saturday 8th and there'll probably be a few that just go with Wednesday 5th anyway. If you're doing a public display, having it on a weekend gets more crowds. Which basically means a solid week of fireworks.
    • Fireworks in this area do feel totally incessant at this time of year, almost every evening there is terrible noise. I feel great concern for wildlife, pets (I have a senior cat who hates them), as well as people who struggle with PTSD etc. Last year I even had people setting them off in front of my home. Tonight and yesterday evening have been particularly bad. Is there anything we can do as a community to prevent this? What action can we take? Surely we shouldn’t be expected to just put up with it every year for weeks on end!
    • Does anyone know what time tonight's events, the second night of the new phenomenon of Halloween Fireworks, end? These do sound too major to be anything but large- scale organised events and they are loud, very loud. So anyone, for their own reasons, that dislikes or objects to this level of noise for the next x amount of hours, really has no choice in the matter! Could those addicted to loud bangs possibly have a kind of silent disco setup with the bangs sent through headphones, so the rest of us could be spared?
