Steviedulwich
Hi there I don't know if any local historians can help me...I have recently come into the possession of a walking stick which was my Great Grand fathers. His name was George Young and he lived at 25, Marmora Road from the early 1900's to the Early 1920's. On the walking stick is engraved "Presented by the Marmora club 25th April 1914" I was wondering if anyone may know what the Marmora club was, as I am intrigued as to where the walking stick came from. Thanks to anyone in advance to anyone who can help me Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12780-marmora-club/ Share on other sites

colonelchips
The first rule of Marmora Club is that you don't talk about Marmora Club.(but seriously, all the best finding out about it as a Marmora resident) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12780-marmora-club/#findComment-352373 Share on other sites
TillieTrotter
Just found that Aquarius Golf Club wasn't opened until 1923. How intriguing. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12780-marmora-club/#findComment-352375 Share on other sites
GSJ57
Could it be a war veterans group from the Crimean war? But as he lived in Marmora Rd, maybe it was just a casual walking group of neighbours? Chener Books
I'd check out whether the armed merchant cruiser HMS Marmora was built before 26 (sic) April 1914 if only to eliminate this possible connection.John K Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12780-marmora-club/#findComment-353467 Share on other sites
James Barber
Why dodn't you go along to the Southwark Local History Library on Borough High Street behind John Harvard Library.I'm sure they'd be delighted to give some steers where you might look in their archives to track this club down.
