If there was a like or dislike function for each post then maybe there wouldn't be so many responses to some posts.

Many would be satisfied to just like or dislike rather than make a comment.

Admin don't suppose there's any chance of adding that functionality ?

Also it appears on any thread where "foreigners" migrant British are involved by the second page racism becomes the topic bonkers.

I've missed a treat of a thread here. For my bit, I really like Dulwich DIY, friendly and competitively priced, just the sort of shop we need in the area to keep that sense of functionality and yes 'normality' going! Street displays have been a part of London's eclectic retail tradition for centuries, don't see why the council or anyone else should suddenly find it offensive now?

Louisa.

I think the problem is that whilst some retailers (Farmers) have merchandise outside it is in a space not occupying the pavement.

Space belonging to the shop. Doesn't Dulwich DIY have stuff on the pavement. ??

Great shop though.. Valuable asset to E.D.

I know this may not be the case, but I find it offensive when long standing businesses - (to use that well worn, but in this case well earned phrase), "a local institution" - are criticised for something they've done for decades, donkeys years if you prefer. They're survivors. They do what they do well, and are part and parcel of what ,ales this neighbourhood great. The council want to stuff them in a predictable money grabbing exercise, stuff the fact a local independent business is doing well and surviving in tough times, the council just want more money. Greedy I say. And to top that, we get a bunch of nimby keyboard warriors wanting to inflame the situation by nit picking over a pretty non offensive issue to begin with.

Louisa.

None of the shops in Rye Lane have merchandise outside on the pavement. Not quite sure how the LL shops have been alliwed to do this unless they have negotiated with Southwark. Nothing against individual shops but the pavement space should be used for pedestrians.

    • It was normal cyclists, in rush hour traffic, in the dark, in the rain. Just really want people to realise it’s that time of year even more careful and to get kitted out.
    • The other consideration is that users of Lime bikes and similar, plus younger pedal cyclists, probably don't view themselves as 'cyclists' as such and so don't get kitted out or even consider that they need to. I also agree that earlier nights are another factor for the casual or hire bike user more used to cycling in the summer. I don't think I have ever seen a hire bike or scooter user wearing a helmet or reflective gear- presumably that is because the bike is just viewed as a transport tool for short term use and users do not want to be encumbered by any of the safety gear? Before anyone jumps on me for anecdotal evidence and speculation, this is just what I have seen round here, there may be hordes of similar users elsewhere that are kitted out.
    • Well apolitical if that is an OK word for you.  Sorry if my choice of words was incorrect.  But on my original point if it wasn't for the Telegraph dragging this up, and yes they do have an agenda, an no they are not apolitical/impartial whatever, we;d be none the wiser. But as it made no difference to Trump's election campaign that why would he have a case in the American courts? Irrespective of the rights and wrongs of the programme
