Sean you are a bad person, because of you my credit card has just taken a flogging!!!

I shall soon be the proud owner of Wire series 1,2 and 4 (I already have 3) and the bloody soundtrack!!!!!!! I only went on there to see how much series 4 cost.

Last time I went on there to by a book (as discussed somewhere else), and ended up spending about ?250. I even cut up the credit card, but Amazon has the details stored, it's just too easy and I have exactly NO self control!

Tonight I shall most likely be watching the last 2 episodes of series 4... I can't believe I now have to wait God knows how long for series 5!!!!!

It really is bloody good, and with all that happened in series 3, I wondered if it would get a bit crap, but I love series 4, the whole education thing has been great, if rather depressing!

First time I've noticed this thread. Love The Wire, love it...I managed to pick up a fairly good copy of series 4 months ago and scoffed it all in a weekend. I need more.

I spotted Idris Elba in Ridley Scotts American Gangster the other day too, that guy deserves all the acting jobs he can get his hands on.

For those of you new to The Wire and wondering what all the fuss is about check out the estimable Charlie Brookers review of the show a www.youtube.co.uk/charliebrooker/the wire

Don't know the actors name, but Stringer Bell turned up in that First female detective agency thing on BBC a couple of weeks ago. Also, I didn't realise that Stringer is actually a Hackney boy! Apparently when people approach him and he opens his mouth they feel cheated until he puts on the Stringer accent! On a similar thread, I was watching the bonus features on Series 4, and McNaulty has got a proper posh boy English accent! Can't believe he went to Eaton. Series 4 bloody brilliant by the way, except the death of one of my favourite characters near the end!
Myself and Mr cEDric are waiting to watch Season 5, having decided with great difficulty to resist the temptation to watch a poor quality download. At the weekend, a friend inadvertently let slip a MAJOR spoiler about the 5th season, which she has now watched. We had done so so well avoiding spoilers and we're now cursing our decision to wait. So be careful folks!

i'll happily start you off on Series 2, but it was a faulty box set - two copies of disc 3 (I think it was 3) but at least it would get you going while you were waiting for keef's

    • Thought others may be interested to help a local community centre help others.    My bank account offers roundup and it’s been growing all year. As well as treating myself or putting it towards a train ticket to see my family I’ve made a donation to the Albrighton. They can use donations at any time but I hope my donation will go towards the Christmas hampers.    Can you support them so they can provide Christmas hampers?   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/albrightoncommunityfridge?utm_id=1&utm_term=M22JKQb6W   A donation of £50 will pay for a hamper to feed a family over this Christmas period. A donation of £30 will pay for a hamper to feed someone living on their own over the Christmas period.
    • I've never got Christmas pudding. The only times I've managed to make it vaguely acceptable to people is thus: Buy a really tiny one when it's remaindered in Tesco's. They confound carbon dating, so the yellow labelled stuff at 75% off on Boxing Day will keep you going for years. Chop it up and soak it in Stones Ginger Wine and left over Scotch. Mix it in with a decent vanilla ice cream. It's like a festive Rum 'n' Raisin. Or: Stick a couple in a demijohn of Aldi vodka and serve it to guests, accompanied by 'The Party's Over' by Johnny Mathis when people simply won't leave your flat.
    • Not miserable at all! I feel the same and also want to complain to the council but not sure who or where best to aim it at? I have flagged it with our local MP and one Southwark councillor previously but only verbally when discussing other things and didn’t get anywhere other than them agreeing it was very frustrating etc. but would love to do something on paper. I think they’ve been pretty much every night for the last couple of weeks and my cat is hating it! As am I !
    • That is also a Young's pub, like The Cherry Tree. However fantastic the menu looks, you might want to ask exactly who will cook the food on the day, and how. Also, if  there is Christmas pudding on the menu, you might want to ask how that will be cooked, and whether it will look and/or taste anything like the Christmas puddings you have had in the past.
