cops said it would take them 2 days to come and view cctv! cctv not really well manned, so watch your back - it's getting crazy out there...

I heard recently that the latest scam is to use a jammer that blocks the radio signal for the alarm, thus you think it is locked but it isn't and they can just stroll in and take the car at their leisure.

Not saying this is how it was done, but well worth checking that your vehicle is actually locked after pressing the remote

My car was parked in Village Way on Tuesday and somebody just stole my passenger-side wing mirror, kindly leaving behind just the wire sticking out. I don't think it was an accident, I really believe they were on the look-out because of the clean way it was taken. So cross!

SteveT- did you report it to the Police?

That is terrible. You have my sympathy. What road did this happen in?

Hi,

1. Have some friends in Hackney who had there merc estate (v similar) stolen, as was their neighbours! So does seem a popular target.

2. Had my ed flat broken into during the day, with neighbours in, lots taken, on populus street and must have had vehicle waiting. (Was a few months ago now, security upgraded...). Have been very aware of people loitering in the street now in cars or vans and have actually obv iously hussled some to move on just by looking at them and makeing a note of the details.

Having discussed with the very helpful local police it is ?vident we are in a low crime are (for london) but still pays to be very aware of what is out there..

Martin - hope you can get your car back

Martin, it would be interesting to know what the police response to this incident has been.

If I may be so bold, I have a few suggestions:

First up, the eyes and ears of the Sainsbury's car park are surely the car washers (plus trolley collectors) - I have driven in to the car park and they clock every car. They would be the first people to talk to. If you have a photo of the car take it along - their English isn't great in my experience.

Second, did you approach Sainsbury's and/or the car park owner about CCTV? What about the nursery? Any CCTV on Dog Kennel Hill (bound to be)? Did you get anywhere with them? The fact that you know within a 15 minute window when the car was taken would make a trawl of recorded footage very easy - but move quickly before it is deleted.

Thirdly, if you haven't already done so it might be worth putting a call in to the local Safer Neighbourhoods police team. You could do worse than specifically ask them to request a check of ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras for your number plate (including but not limited to the congestion charge cameras - there are ANPR cameras everywhere, esp. on larger roads into/out of London, plus the whole motorway network). Speed and bus lane cameras too. Also, ask the police about any other recent car crime in the Sainsbury's car park, especially cars being stolen. If it's a routine problem the police are more likely to respond.

If you aren't happy with the police response contact your councillor.

Good luck - and let us know how you get on.

Gavin

Good luck indeed. A friend's experience in Camden, trying to get footage from the council's parking CCTV of his Mercedes being stolen was met with 'Sorry, the Data Protection Act forbids it.'

Just to rub salt into his wounds, a fine arrived on his doormat a few days later for a lapsed parking permit on the same car, filmed by the same camera a few days earlier.

    • Where did I say he did a good job? Yup and Corbyn was very close to Len McCluskey and funded by Unite wasn't he...they're all as bad as each other... Labour have to purge their party of the far-left - they're a disaster. Allan Johnson summed it up so well on election night in 2019....
    • Thank you for the detailed advise @trinidad It is definitely damage we are concerned about. I don’t think Evri would agree to pay the bill to fix our gate or letter box if they were to be damaged as a result of their delivery drivers helper. Our doorbell can be heard from outside when rung so we don’t quite believe the aggressive simultaneous door/letter box banging is necessary. It can be quite a shock it is done very aggressively.  I’ll definitely action the steps you’ve kindly provided along with a phone call tomorrow. I do sympathise with the role drivers have and how busy they are, which is why we tried communicating directly with her but sadly we haven’t succeeded
    • What outcome would you like? Disciplinary action? Not to have the driver back? Retraining? I know there is alot of pressure on drivers to deliver within a set day. if he slams the gate, is it evidence he is causing damage, or is the noise a irritant to yourself? You could put a sign up or buy a signing asking to close the gate gentle???? can you hear the door bell from the door? he might be ringing, not hearing and therefore knocking. In trhe notes section of the be livery page, there is a note section, although there is not 100 per cent these notes would be read as these drivers are constantly rushing.  I did a google search for you, i found this and you can try the envri website Contact Us | Evri   To complain to Evri, you can follow these steps: Contact Customer Service: Call Evri's customer service at 0330 808 5456 for assistance with your complaint.    1 Write a Letter: Address your complaint to Capitol House, 1 Capitol Close, Morley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS27 0WH.    1 Use the Official Website: Visit the Evri complaints page on their official website for detailed instructions on how to submit a complaint.    2 Email or Call for Specific Issues: For issues like missing or damaged parcels, you can email or call 0800 988 8888, which is free to call.    1 These methods will help you effectively communicate your concerns to Evri.   My driver is called anthony, he is brilliant to be honest. I cant fault him.
    • When I have more time and energy, I will look up the actual number of votes cast for each party in that election, rather than the number of seats won. I'm interested to see that you apparently  think that  Boris Johnson did a good job of "leading the country through Covid." Is your memory really that short? I won't stoop to calling Johnson and his cronies names in the way that you seem to think is appropriate for left wing politicians. At least the left wing politicians have some semblance of morals and a concern for people who aren't in some over privileged inner circle and/or raking in money for themselves on the back of an epidemic. I'm not going to open a can of worms on here  by commenting on the disgraceful so called "purge".
