One of my 'early girlfriends' dumped me - on the grounds that she wanted to go out with someone who looked more like the lead singer from Echo & The Bunnymen.

It seemed like poor reasoning at the time, but - thinking back - it was near-genuis. I had no comeback.

Has anyone else been dumped, or dumped anyone under vaguely amusing circumstances?

I should have dumped my first proper boyfriend on the grounds that he looked like a cross between andrew eldrich (sp?) from that dodgy goth band, 'the sisters of mercy' and Bono (in the 80s), from that very famous irish band.

I should have dumped my second boyfriend on the grounds that he looked like michael portillo (according to my mum). :-$

Edited : for TMI :-S

I have dumped someone on the grounds of not enough sex (not so unusual) but he rather stole my thunder the following month when he came out and moved to Brighton.

I would have gone out with Ian McCulloch (on the basis that Morrissey and I never made it up the aisle), except you know, I was at school at the time. I don't half envy her, Jah.

I've had a couple...

"We get on really well, and I think you're really attractive, and that's why I can't go out with you..." Eh??? I thought that was the entire point (?)

"You're allergic to things and drink strange tea" - 10 years later he declared his undying love. I didn't take him up on it...

Was that me? I used a near identical line once. There was supposed to be a "but..." near the end, but I stopped short.

LOL - I have no idea! Did you deliver this line in a bar on the south bank and then get back together with an old girlfried?

I am not sure I even classify this as being dumped but I got a text from a fella I went on 2 dates with

"whenever i feel a girl really likes me I get scared and run away"

my reply

"does it help if you know I think you're a bit of a knob with hobbit feet"

I never heard from him again. sighhhhhh.

    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
