yes they do and they stay together as a family, hunt, sleep , live as a group, young rats are the easiest to catch as they are most nosey and more likely to go near traps/posion. a mum rat has up to 6 baby each time..

Back on track.....can Weil's disease be caught from rat's urine in an area like this? Or does it have to be ingested like in a lake or stream?

Infection of humans usually occurs where open wounds are immersed in relatively stagnant water contaminated with rat or cattle urine. It can be contracted from contact with any fresh or untreated water including ponds, canals, lakes and rivers, as well as flood waters that are contaminated.
