I think they are great. Especially like the keyboard guy.

Qualo means good.

The Gossip last night at Kenntish Town Forum. F**king wicked!!!

It all started a bit badly, in that I was really tired, and didn't really feel up to it. We arrived to see a "bloke" on stage ding what I can only describe as talking sh!t along to a beat. He was wearing a red thong, and he had breasts. Very odd.

The next "act" were a drummer and a singer. Good drummer, singer that needed shooting... At this stage I really wanted to go home!

However, Gossip hit the stage, and opened with a new tune which is a brave thing to do! They're only a 3 piece with vocals, drums (very very good female drummer), and a bloke who switches between bass and guitar, but the sound is big enough to pull it off.

Anyway, this new tune was drums and bass, and got everyone moving! Her vocals were awesome all night, and she is such a good performer, you can't help loving her.

They finished their main set with "Standing in the way of control", which is probably their most popular song, and a real crowd pleaser! They then came back and did the most bizarre cover of George Micheal's "Careless Whisper", and then another song. To be honest, I think they'd reached their peak with "Standing in the way of control", and should have saved that for the encore.

Anyway, that's my only critisism. They were great, it was very good to see and hear them in a small venue (having first been impressed by them at Reading), and I would whole heartedly recommend them to anyone! Big big thumbs up >:D<

This is a long shot but I?m trying to remember the name of a band I saw at the Bull and Gate in Kentish town a few months ago and really enjoyed.

They are a 3 piece but with 2 bassists and no guitar and they play a set bordering on standup comedy. Crude jokes and music that could be likened to Primus.

The singer spoke with what sounded like it could have been a West Country accent.

Anyone know who I?m talking about?

*Ahem*

"One for the Bristol City, Two for the boys in red. Three for the fans down Ashton Gate we'll follow til we're dead me boys, we'll follow til we're dead!".

I had to read that twice before realising you didn't mean this forum! :-$

Hate the Shep Bush Empire, but probably because it was the first place I experienced the no smoking ban!

Acoustics in the forum have been great when I've been there, but that's only 3 or 4 times. Worst acoustics I ever heard were Ocean colour scene at Hammersmith, but I've heard other bands sound great there. I don't think it's so much the building's acoustics, I think it's the quality of your sound tech.

Yeah! Your're right there Annasfield. Earls Court has got the worse sound ever. Saw the Stones there in '76 and the sound was pretty ropey then but I was having such a good time at seeing them for the first time that I didn't really care. Then I saw Oasis there in '95 and couldn't believe that the sound was so dreadful. Haven't been back since. Mind you, who wants to go and see a band in a bloody aircraft hangar anyway?

    • Did you try the emergency number posted above? It mentions lift breakdowns over the festive period outside the advertises times. Hope you got it sorted x
    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
    • Adapted not forced.  As have numerous species around the world.  Sort of thing that Attenborough features.  Domestic dogs another good example - hung around communities for food and then we become the leader of the pack.  Not sure how long it will take foxes to domesticate, but some will be well on their way.    Raccoons also on the way https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1j8j48e5z2o
    • My memory, admittedly not very reliable these days, places the shop on the block on the left hand side just before Burgess Park going towards Camberwell. Have also found a reference to Franklins Antiques being located at 157 Camberwell Road which is on that block. This is a screen shot obtained from Google maps of that address which accords with my memory except the entrance door was on the right hand side, where the grey door is, rather than in the centre.
