Knit group, Tuesdays from 7:30 in The Prince Albert, Bellenden Rd

We meet weekly, as the title says, to knit and natter, stitch and bitch, and to drink and laugh. You don't have to be a knitter to join, any crafty type is welcome to come along including wannabe-crafters, we can teach you if you want to learn to knit or crochet. I'm going to bring some ping pong balls tomorrow night to knit/crochet around to make baubles, and also cake (because its time for that annual reminder of impending old age, my birthday). Come along!

Hello All,

Is this still taking place? and dare I ask, who are you?! ;) What type of people - younger/older/mix? My Mum is looking for something like this and has been for a good while, she's in the 60-70 age bracket :) just so I can tell her a little more!

Thanks x

Hi, sorry, I thought I had notifications set up but it seems not. Yes, were still going. Small group of regulars, all women (men welcome though too), from early 30's to late 40's, drop ins of varying ages. We can be fairly animated and possibly sometimes slightly sweary(that'd probably just be me, actually just be me. Your mum is very welcome to come along and see if she likes us. We're not meeting every week at the moment so it's a good idea to message. We usually communicate with a whatspp group, pm me and I can pop you or her on it. We also have a Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/105594917610/ here, it's not all that used but you'll at least get a response there.

Hi centra95, we haven?t been meeting regularly anymore. I?d love to be part of a knit night again but at the moment am not in a position to try to reinvigorate this one. Our group was simply people coming together with their own crafty projects (knitting, crochet, embroidery, paper piecing, etc) in a welcoming venue to natter and chat.

I think this knit night is ongoing if you?re willing to travel a little https://www.yarninthecity.com/knit-night

    • Missing Cat! 11 months old/ Our friend, Coco, has gone missing. Last seen evening of 31st October near top of Henslowe rd where it meets Underhill Rd in SE22. We know she has started wandering up Friern Rd and further we guess but we imagine she has been spooked by Halloween / Fireworks goings on. She is a grey Siberian mix with some brown stripes down her, very friendly and likes to eat. Please let us know
    • That said, organised displays could be on Saturday before and after and the actual day, and private ones could just not have the loud ones.  It’s all down to accessibility and people caring/not caring
    • The problem this year is that 5th November falls on a Wednesday. So some places will be bringing their "bonfire night" forward to Saturday 1st and some will be knocking it back to Saturday 8th and there'll probably be a few that just go with Wednesday 5th anyway. If you're doing a public display, having it on a weekend gets more crowds. Which basically means a solid week of fireworks.
    • Fireworks in this area do feel totally incessant at this time of year, almost every evening there is terrible noise. I feel great concern for wildlife, pets (I have a senior cat who hates them), as well as people who struggle with PTSD etc. Last year I even had people setting them off in front of my home. Tonight and yesterday evening have been particularly bad. Is there anything we can do as a community to prevent this? What action can we take? Surely we shouldn’t be expected to just put up with it every year for weeks on end!
