I can't stop my neighbours cat from doing it's business in my flower bed outside the front of my house.

I've tried plastic bottles, my daughters wee (from her potty), pepper and moth balls.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? If I don't find something soon I won't be held responsible for my actions! Im sure the cat just sits and watches me try all these things with a smirk on it's face!

I will not be defeated!!!

Ask your neighbour to provide the cat with a litter tray in which it can do its business - it's their cat, I'm not sure why they think it's ok for other people to have to clear up after it? You have my sympathy. I have to clear up after two cats who seem to think my garden is there just for them to poo in!
Have you spoken to the neighbour? Do they let the cat out the front because they don't have a garden? I am pretty sure cats don't like citrus scents so orange peel might help. The slate chips do sound a good idea. I have small pebbles in my front garden and subsequently don't have any cats coming in. But I do have foxes leaving the odd deposit.

PS. something similar kept the neighbourhood bully, *Oscar*, away from our garden (and our catz) ... (tu)

You can get "Silent Roar" from the Dulwich Garden Centre, which I have found to be effective. It's lion poo extract (obviously, being a lion, you wouldn't take the piss...), which makes kitty think it is subservient to the bigger animal.

Failing that, try a landmine. *Boom* - problem solved. Most parts of kitty may actually land back next door if you tilt it just so.

But the Lion Poo doesn't smell and doesn't stick to your kids wellies and shoes and isn't GROSS and you put it there rather than some LAZY SELFISH PET OWNER who seems to think it is ok for you to shovel up after THEIR pet every bleedin' day!

Ahem.

Sorry. Rant over. Getting a bit annoyed with my two particularly determined garden invaders. I do like cats really.

The cat is out there now mocking me. Sat on the bay window sill looking into my lounge.

I'll try the onions idea today and get some slate chips when I next go to B&Q.

By the end of the day my front garden (and it's only tiny) will be strewn with pee, onions, moth balls, plastic bottles and a sprinkling of black pepper.

Mmm.. Maybe cat sh1t ain't so bad!

owners can't control cats, thats historically why cats didn't need licences and dogs did! As a cat owner, I would struggle to dictate where he did his business, around here it's just a fact of life...I find many things irksome too but that's a thread called grumpy old women!

Ah-ha! The guilty feline party identified! And to think all these years we simply didn't spot the extra 'e' in her name..

You could try (as a temporary measure to encourage the cat to go - and then hopefully continue to go - elsewhere) putting loads of bramble stems over your bed, or something else prickly.

I used to do this along a wall to keep cats off, and it seemed to work :)

PGC - cats only cover their poo if their feel they are not the dominant force. They will defer to their owners and to bigger cats, which is why cat owners rarely see uncovered poo and the Silent Roar stuff works. If a cat thinks a garden is open to claim it will do so by leaving uncovered poo as a territory marker.

Anyway, if else fails, throw something at it. Something like a rottweiler.

    • Have you tried Southwark's leisure centres? As a regular attendee at Peckham, Camberwell, The Castle and speaking to friends, the dance routines for all ages are similar to Silver ones. In addition Natty, Bianca and Isac are brilliant instructors.
    • I've been there for lunch a few times and the home cooked asian food (as part of Sweat Dreams cafe) is genuinely great and a must try. I think the food side of the business has been slow to be noticed but people are now realising what is actually hidden in plain sight.  As for the Aroma Lab coffee ... it is excellent, they are very welcoming and friendly (and unpretentious!). This Australian coffee snob is mightily impressed!!
    • Do you mean put out things like live mealworms for the parents to feed to the young? Or that the parents will eat the food you put out and therefore can save "wild" live food for the young rather than eating it themselves? On another matter, several weeks ago I moved my bird feeders to another part of my (very small) garden because the area they were in was totally scratched up by pigeons, and I lost several plants I had had for decades and was very fond of 😭 It is now just bare earth with no plants,  and I've got to start again. And block up a fox hole in one corner. I suspect the foxes are tunnelling beneath the garden, as there are several holes. I hope the ground doesn't suddenly collapse beneath me! I cleaned everything and put in fresh seed, but so far all that has visited the new area (that I have actually seen)  is one rather fat sparrow. And a cat. Sitting hopefully beneath the feeders 🤬 No goldfinches (I have a niger seed feeder and have seen the occasional goldfinch in the garden) and no tits, though I've heard both blue tits and great tits nearby. Plus the flock of sparrows who used to come and seem to have deserted the garden. Hopefully they will find the feeders. I've cut back some of the greenery, which doesn't help, as they have less shelter.
    • So when will we find out? Is it going to be a big reveal on some specified day? If not, why can't you tell us now?! (I'm presuming you mean the new boss of Franklins. It would be too much to hope for that the Palmerston had a miraculous return to one of its better past incarnations. Never mind the food, they could bring back the lovely quirky painted column things of over twenty (?) years ago, and remove the hideous "art" that has sadly been installed. I feel really sorry for the staff, because it can't be just my partner and I who rarely go there any more. I suppose the only hope is that it does so badly that it changes hands again and that the new hands have better taste. Sorry, all off topic.)
