Free! - Every Session! Fitness & Toning on the Rye - Sat @10am 16 to 60+

Recommended Posts

Louise,

I'm so pleased you made it and enjoyed it. You now know who the purple poeple are.... probably more fun than fitness! We only had 20 in the group today, some... are holidaying in Croatia, Japan ..... easy life!

As you can see, one group works on three levels with me leading from the back which is level-3 (with those getting back into exercise), level-2 is at a general jogging pace (8 ~ 12 min miles), and level-1 is for those that are sub 8-min milers and use the interval sessions as speed play. I had fun in my triathlon days, and now having even more fun leading from the back ha ha!

Further, its good to get the prenatal / postnatal mums, dads and pushchairs out as well :))

Its possibly the most sustainable FREE community fitness program in London..... since 2008!

Catch you soon!

McCabe.

Hi

Sorry but please be fair to other users of the What's on section and do not continuously purposely bump up this thread.

I understand that it's FREE, but so is using this forum to promote it so please respect my request to not to post too much.

Admin is right,

I will only do the Friday Rah Rah.

There is no discrimiation against us as Admin has issued this to many others too. So, if you see a thread repeatedly popping up more than once a week by the 'originator', please report it.

I have used many many forums in London and this is by far the very best - well done Admin for this great service!

Thanks guys!

Project London Health

Hi all,

This is your once weekly update from PLH to get you rah rah'd for tomorrow!

First time on this thread?

This is a friendly, fun & FREE 'Low Impact Cardio' fitness group that meets every Saturday for 10am by the caf? in the middle of the Rye.

We have 3 levels working together as a team:

1. Powerwalkers & gentle joggers: getting back to fitness, pre / post natal

2. Joggers,

3. The fast ones: using this group for Speed Play

We cover only 300m and then stop for stretching, toning and some other fun :-) This is repeated c.8 times so we cover around 2.5 miles but at an achieveable pace. I lead from the back so no one is left on their own, and the faster ones circle back to the back which is how the team remains together.

What do I need to do?

* Fill in a health form on www.AHM-go.com and email back to [email protected]

* Bring some change for a tea / coffee at the end, and....

* Bring a 1 Ltr bottle of water for arm, should & back toning.... and to rehydrate through the session.

If you want some feedback from the team, please post a message on this thread. If you would like to speak with me, please PM me as I only post one message per week (making it fair for the other users of the brilliant EDF)

Best!

McCabe.

G'day Team Rye!

This is your once weekly rah rah to get the power walkers and joggers ready for another FREE Sat fitness session on the Rye. We meet for 10am on the Rye by the cafe.

Bring some change for tea / coffee at the end, and a 1 Ltr bottle of water for arm, shoulder and back toning.

McCabe will be there in spirit, but will be at the NEC :-(

You will have great weather!

McCabe

Can you believe it, another week has flown by and the weather is awesome!!!!

We have some new ones starting tomorrow, so..... here is the high-level view:

* Bring a 1 Ltr bottle of water for arm, shoulder & back toning (and to rehydrate in the sun).

* Bring some change for a tea / coffee at the end.

* We have 3 layers, powerwalkers, joggers and the faster ones.

* We stop every 300m, so the team remain together... the faster ones circle back as part of their speed training.

* All the toning & stetches are 'Low Impact Cardio' - opt out on any part if need be.

* Its Friendly, Its FUN and its FREE!

See you guys in the morning, 10am by the caf? on the Rye

ps. I did a country cycle ride to Brighton last Sunday, and will do the same this Sunday but on the A23 to measure the difference in speed & enjoyment. Feel free to join me, BUT...... there are two huge hurdles: firstly, I'll be on my road bike cycling at 16MPH ~ 20MPH (pretty quick but not mega fast), and secondly.... I'm aiming to leave a 6am, with a train back I'll be in doors for brunch at 11am >:D<

Hello All

it was my first time at Fitness in the park on Sat and I loved it - everyone was so welcoming, it was lovely to be out in the fresh air and I really felt the benefits (and pain!) for the rest of the weekend...I'll only be able to do every other Saturday but look forward to seeing everyone again on the 16th...

Welcome aboard EMC!

Hey guys, this is a super early Rah Rah to say that we are having a picnic after this Saturdays session. Jane and a few others will have their cars with them so if you have a portable chiller bag packed with Vino and foods, there is a good location to store it until after the fitness session.

Fingers crossed for the weather!

McCabe.

Picnic on the Rye tomorrow after the fitness session.

Well, the forecast states that it will be dry with sunny intervals, albit the grass will be really wet. Might be best to assess in the morning, albeit probably best to book a Saturday the day before so we know its dry.

McCabe.

Hi guys,

Its the Friday Rah Rah time!

Are we already for a great fitness session in the morning? Bring a bottle of water for arm, shoulder and back toning, and some change for a tea / coffee at the end :-)

Hi project london fitness.

I am wondering if you are aware that there is an elderly man missing from the Nunhead area. He has been missing from 7 th June. Dulwich runners have been approached to ask them to look out for him . I wonder if you could help by asking those who attend your sessions to have a look too. I haven't worked out how to quote or link threads on this forum using my phone so can't show you the page but if you look in the general east dulwich issues section it is the first topic on the list. Thank you

Friday Rah Rah all!

Its going to be sunny tomorrow.....yaaaaah!

After the fantastic picnic we had a couple of weeks back, Bridget has come up with a super idea for one in the grounds of the Dulwich Picture Gallery while watching a play (see below).

The date is Saturday 7th July at 2pm.

See http://dulwichplayers.org/next.html for details.

Please put this on a 'MUST DO' list! There are c.16 for the grass at ?6 for us, but please book them ASAP. Between this group and Fitness Julia's group, we will probably take up all the grass :-)

See you guys in the morning, 10am by the cafe with..... a bottle of water for arm, shoulder and back toning :-)

    • A new roadmap (surely railmap?!) for rail accessibility has been published: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/accessible-railways-roadmap It says "approximately 56% of stations and around 66% of the 1.3 billion journeys that take place on the network have step-free access to platforms...  "£373 million has been committed over the next 5 years to deliver Access for All projects, providing step-free access from station entrances to and between platforms, alongside other essential accessibility upgrades. These works, together, will increase the number of step-free stations across Great Britain from 56% to 58%. "This improvement will make travel easier with step-free access available at stations covering an increased share of total rail journeys – from 66% up to 71%" Don't know what that means for us here: upgrading Peckham Rye would cover a lot of rail journeys but the cost has no doubt increased from the £40m figure previously quoted. So that would eat into a lot of the funding.
