McCabe

You bet!

All things being equal, I'll be there 30-mins earlier to do an outer lap of the Rye.... it will be slow but meaningful :-)

Catch you all for 10am, bring a bottle for arm, shoulder & back toning and also for rehydration!

Went to my 1st session today and had a great time. Was made to feel very welcome by the group and Macabe stayed with me all the way in case I collapsed! ( only joking)Seriously though it was like having a personal trainer. Will definately be back for more next Saturday.

Come along, it's not often you get something this good for free.

G'day guys,

This is a Saturday morning Rah Rah, I know, it should have gone out yesterday.

So, 10am by the cafe and bring a bottle of water for arm, shoulder and back toning - and to rehydrate

McCabe

To all fit fans on both Free Fitness in the park groups, Julie is organising drinks for the team and you can bring your friends and buddies too!

* Drinks Thursday 23rd Aug, from 7ish-@ The Great Exhibition pub, Crystal Palace Road SE22. All welcome!!!!!!!!

What a fantastic evening last night! Thanks Julie for organising it - right, you are the social secretary!

All things being equal, we will have a beautiful morning to have some fun and get a bit fitter too.

It was good to meet I think...... Jessy.... last night who started with the group last week while McCabe and family where in Jersey living it up with the cows! I had better scrub up on my German now :-)

So, 10am at the caf? on the Rye for tomorrow morning - and bring a 1 Ltr bottle of water for arm, should and back toning, and to rehydrate too. And..... some change for a tea / coffee at the end.

McCabe.

G'day Jess and team,

Its the Friday Rah Rah time, to get you good people ready for the Saturday morning fitness session.

If you are reading this for the first time, we meet by the caf? on the Rye for 10am and have an hour of fun and fitness. We cover around 2.5Km with stops every c.300m for stretching, toning and some other bits and pieces. Bring a 1 Ltr bottle of water for toning your arms, shoulders and back... and then drink it for rehydration.

If...... if you want to do a bit more, meet at the same place for a 9-15am start where we do 2 outer laps of the Rye.... I set the pace at a 14-min mile which is a powerwalkers pace.

Can I run faster, oh yes! But I will have a half marathon the next day so taking it easy - its the first half of the London Marathon. Come and join me if you can.... meet for 9am at Blackheath/junc of Greenwich Park car entrance... and then finish at Tower Bridge.

Hasta la vista!

McCabe

Great!

There is a slight change to the plan for tomorrow. As we can't do the 1/2 London Marathon on Sunday, I'm going to do 7.5 laps of Peckham Rye which equates to c.Half Marathon.

Assuming I am jogging at a 12-min mile, you will catch me by the zebra crossing (Barry Road) heading up the Rye at the following times:

* 7am, 7-20am, 7-40am

* 8am, 8-20am, 8-40am (Lynsay is joining me here at 8am)

* 9am, 9-20am, 9-40am

And then I will take the 10am group, and really will be leading from the back!

I love setting personal tasks to see if

a) I chicken out (which McCabe doesn't), and

b) can I do them non stop unless I develop an injury?

10am team, remember..... a 1Ltr bottle of water for arm toning.

Hasta Leugo!

McCabe

BTW, this isn't the weekly Rah Rah, that comes tomorrow as always.

Best!

    • Callout for help from any local experts here. Looking to find out more about the history of the property on the corner of Whateley Road and Ulverscroft road. Now a residential property, i'm told it was a bottle shop in days gone (the house was built around 1900) by and i'd like to learn more about the history of the business that was once here - name, photos, anything at all really! Seems to be very little from open source research so i'm hoping anyone with history in the area can provide any insight!  Starting here before i contact Southwark Archives or similar orgs to get any information and pictures (any advice here also would be welcome). Thank you
    • Portable ramps are available for businesses to use in this sort of situation, aren't they? I don't know whether one would be suitable for use here, or whether they have the space to store one. Lots of people have  permanent or temporary disabilities which mean they have to use crutches or a wheelchair.
    • I can’t remember where I read that figure but this article in the Grauniad from 2023 discusses Ocado results from 2022. The average shopping cart fell to £118 from £129 the previous year. But Ocado lost £500m that year on approximately 20 million orders (circa 400k orders per week). So, averaging out to £25 lost per order. Ocado pauses building new warehouses as annual losses balloon to £500m | Ocado | The Guardian  Obviously, the £500m loss includes various factors. But Ocado has existed for 25 years and only made a small profit in a couple of those years. The rest have been huge losses. Yet it continues to raise funds and speculation sends the share price up and down. In that respect,  it’s like the UK version of Tesla. Meanwhile, the main growth in the supermarket sector has been for Aldi and Lidl, who do not deliver.
