Hmmm.... ok LM, but I'll have to put you in the middle of the squad if you don't mind. Striding heels clashing on mettled roads make for a more appealing sound than the thunk-thunk of wobbly wellies.

I've never really been comfortable with patriotism. There's a thin line between loving your country and believing that it's superior to other nations, and from there on you're in dodgy territory.

I feel a certain amount of affection for the place I've lived my whole life, but looking at it objectively, I can't see that it has much going for it over other developed countries. And I find it hard to muster any deep affinity with the majority of the population.

Oi!! I would only wear Stuart Weitzman anyway. What kind of guy d'you think I am!

And same answer to you too DJKQ!

So let's recap.

Brum the hunch back is hobbling down Lordship Lane is sparkly heels, chased by an angry lawyer who wants her shoes back, a woman in wellies waving a note from her doctor, some random blokes with medals pinned to their chests, and a bevvy of pert bottomed lovelies fluttering their Union Jacks.

All together now:

There'll always be an England.......

Are we done?

Not sure what I think on patriotism. I am not particularly bothered about being British or English. I have more affinity with the places within England that I have lived than England as a whole. I think it is interesting that England had such an important part to play in world history but that is because I am interested in History generally.

Personally I think the concept of country will be eroded in the same way that the importance of counties and county identity have been eroded over the centuries. I think it will be a progression to the United States of Europe and common leadership.

And then, when eventually they find life further afield our affinity will be with Earth and the differences between Islam and Christianity and Atheists will be the same as the differences between Englishmen and Welshmen. Sounds slightly different but are essentially the same.

So, to sum, patriotism is pointless and time-limited. (Although the time-span will be quite long!)

    • What does the area with the blue dotted lines and the crossed out water drop mean? No water in this area? So many leaks in the area.
    • You can get a card at the till, though, to get the discount. You don't have to carry it with you (or load it onto your phone), you can just get a different card each time. Not sure what happens if they notice 🤣
    • Yes..that may be the case but membership STARTING at £115 a month is still unafforable for many. Council gyms also have a large range of equipment and I had a  PT at Dulwich leisure centre when I was in Full Time employment who was incredible and even kept in contact during lockdown giving me a program I could do at home and checking in weekly at no charge or personal gain for herself. I dont doubt that Fit For may be a good gym (Its been in situ long enough so must be doing something right) However the cost of membership means it is affordable for the few not the many. If I could afford that kind of fee I would rather get a train to Canary Wharf and go to Virgin active where theres a pool and incredible classes and facilities
